  • “Basic” Skytrak, iOS and Apple TV setup question

Hello everyone, I am desperately trying to use my Skytrak/WGT purchase. Thus far, I’ve been marginally successful.
    Here is my question:
I have my Skytrak connected through the network via iOS, which is then using Airplay to Apple TV.

What devices should be on what network channel?

My Router is a NETGEAR Nighthawk, capable of 2.4 and 5 ghz (which I believe is a a superb router with huge range). Can I run the Skytrak on 2.4 and the iOS and Apple TV on 5 ghz? Do all three devices need to be on the same network, thus 2.4 due to the Skytrak’s limitations?

Finally, what speeds are needed to run WGT? If I am forced to run n a WiFi extender, the halving drips my speed to between 10-20 mbs vs 100+ mbs via 5ghz router.

What is your marginal success? Is the SkyTrak only working on the iPad or streaming to the Apple TV but dropping frequently?

To be brief, in an hour I'll be lucky to play 3 holes of WGT or hit 15-20 shots on the SkyTrak range. The system drops connection when connected via 2.4 ghz network. Runs well in direct mode. Unit runs SkyTrak range using a range extender clocking 10-20 mbs but will not run WGT, due to slow speeds.

Used SkyGolf live chat and they said SkyTrak support is handled via phone only. Called the provided phone number and woman wasn't willing to perform any troubleshooting, whatsoever (none). She said that I must email "commercial services" and they will respond 24-48 hours later with a phone call to me. I must be at the unit when this phone call arrives in order to troubleshoot... How that will be possible is a mystery. She also said that she "deals with these issues day in and day out" and "doesn't need to do any troubleshooting" because this is likely a "network" issue. While that may be possible, I am thoroughly unimpressed with a $1.5-2K piece of hardware that cannot obtain a WiFi signal 50 feet away (on the same level), using a "premium" Netgear Nighthawk AC1900 router. If it won't run on my network, I can't imagine it will run on 75-90% of other home networks.

Way off base on your comment about 75-90% not being able to run on other home networks. If that was the case, they wouldn't have sold nearly the number of units they have and they'd be getting hammered on here. You say it works fine in direct mode, then obviously the unit is good and you have a network issue that needs to be resolved.

I use Direct mode b/c that's the only option for me. I find it really amusing that ST cannot handle special character in WiFi password! Come on now!

You missed my point. If Skytrak support says my $150-200 router doesn’t have the range/speed to run the unit in Network mode, then I’m assuming that 75-90% of others have a much worse router than mine. I would assume, maybe incorrectly, that 75-90% of people are running the modem/router combination provided by their ISP.
