  • Skytrak Connectivity Issues

    Hi All,

In the past couple of days, I've been having some issues connecting.

Using a PC Win 10 & and a DIR-655 2.4ghz router. Router is approximately 6 feet from the Skytrak unit.

Yesterday, the Skytrak would not connect through 'Network Mode'. It took a while for the Skytrak network to show up in the Wifi list... but I was able to connect in 'Direct Mode', but wouldn't move on to the router to go into Network Mode. After 30 minutes of messing around with it, I ended up staying in Direct Mode for my entire practice session.

Today, it wouldn't connect at all. The yellow light simply flickers endlessly and the 'Skytrak', network NEVER appeared on the Wifi list.

It also will not connect via USB at all. The yellow light simply continues to flash and nothing happens.

I removed the fmj and tried the paperclip reset method... both while the unit was on and while it was off. I've also power cycled the PC, router and Skytrak unit multiple times - nothing affects the problem. I've exhausted all troubleshooting methods I can think of.

So after 45 minutes of frustration, I'm asking for help.

    Any ideas?

If your wifi router is that close to the skytrak and it won't connect to your network it seems there are only a few possibilities:
    1. Do you have MAC filtering on or a bad password? I've read where spaces or special characters in wifi name or password can cause problems.
    2. Are there other 2.4GHz devices messing up your signal.. microwave, cordless phones, etc?
    3. Bad wifi antenna in SkyTrak

Regarding USB mode I spent A LOT of time debugging and getting it to work.. you can read my thread here:

I've noticed this issue lately and it seems to happen more regularly now since the 3.x release. My SkyTrak unit seems to go haywire if I plug it in via USB to

Thanks for chiming in and for passing along that thread, frodaddy00.

Yesterday was the first time I tried to connect via USB in 3 weeks of ownership... I had no idea the USB option was that big of an ordeal to get it to work. It's the least attractive connection option due to the fact that I am left handed and most playing partners aren't.

      To answer your questions:
      1) No. I've gotten it to work just fine on several occasions prior to this weekend. Nothing changed.
      2) No. My setup is in my office... it's possible one of my neighbors may have some interference going on but nothing in the immediate vicinity.
      3) The fact that the problem has gotten progressively worse tells me it's probably a hardware issue. Process of elimination has ruled out most other potential issues.

        Here's my issue:

        1) Windows 10 update crashed my PC and I ultimately had to format my HD, pushing me back to Windows 7 (I was on a free upgrade to 10).

        2) Did all the updates and added the Skytrak driver for Windows 7 (64-bit System).

        3) Now my Skytrak won't connect.

An ideas? I've been troubleshooting for 3 days now...

Update: After reading another thread in this forum, I switched to the 32-bit version. Problem solved...

Interesting. Thanks for the details - will continue to investigate this 64-bit issue with some Win 10 machines (though I guess yours is Win 7 now). Glad you are up and running though.
