  • Distances not even close - please help

    hi guys

been following this page for a while but never had the need to post anything.

i need guidance with my skytrak unit, the distances are so far out I am probably one more session from giving up on it and selling it.

    things I have tried -

    new mat
    new balls
moving ball position (in front, behind, on the dot)

    i have literally tried everything

to give clarity it use the unit outside when it’s dusk (no direct sunlight). So it can’t be because of my indoor swing

tonight my 5iron was coming up at 180 carry average, on the course and on GC2 or GC quad it’s a 210-215 carry club. Club speed is coming up at about 88mph, id imagine I am around 100mph standard

my PW I cannot get to fly more than 130yds, that’s a 145-150yd club for me

any advice would be really appreciated

    many thanks

Right guys, an update. It clearly must be something in my set up outside. I’ve attached 2 photos - one taken from outside using my set up, the other taken from an indoor bay at my local pro shop. 21yds difference!!

Yeah the big indicator is that your ball speeds are completely different. What kind of mat do you hit off of? Even hitting slightly fat on some mats really kills your contact, or it could just be you swing slower indoors? Lots of little things that can cause this.

I truly believe that the SkyTrak cannot accurately measure ball speed with any sort of infrared interference (sun). Is anyone getting sick of me saying this??!

I dont have a skytrak, so i am sure i am stating something completely obvious that has no outcome but in your 2 pictures 1 states you have an 8 iron and you hit is 168 yards your skytrak says undefined and is only 147 yds. Does the selection of the club have any impact at all, just a silly observation but might as well say something before you give up?

SkyTrak says club selection has nothing to do with the measurement...

No, it doesn't matter if you have a club selected. It is just so you can export the sessions and track your progress if you're interested. Otherwise, when you export your practice session it will be one long list of shots with different distances. If you select your clubs it will be broken into X amount of shots with your X iron, then x amount of shots with your X iron/wood.

Sam, I have found a small trick for outdoor use that could be of benefit - you know how when you buy a dozen balls they come in that box. Take the top part of the box and place it over the skytrak like a baseball cap. It covers the cameras really well and produces much better results.
