  • Ball placement issues

I have had my Skytrak for 1.5 years now, and never had any issues at all. Hardly ever missed a shot, and distance is spot with real life. Lately though to get it to read a shot, I have been having to move the ball closer and closer to the Skytrak. At this point I have to have the ball a good three inches closer than the laser to get a read. As long as I move the ball close, it is spot on as usual. My concern is that I am getting too close for comfort at this point, and obviously something isn't quite right. I tried left hand mode and turning the unit around, and it is fine that way, I can hit right from the laser. Nothing has changed in my setup, or lighting or anything like that. Same balls, clubs, mat etc. Anyone else ever have this problem?

Is it similar to the problem I am facing?

Weird position of the ball to get Skytrak to read

Yes exactly the same issue you are having. Did you figure anything out?

Unfortunately no. I continue to use the device in the weird ball location. I have no option to send it in for repairs as I’m not in the US. I’m hoping the next update will fix the problem. Hope more people facing the same issue would surface so Skytrak will look at it.

Do update if you end up sending it for repairs and it is a hardware issue. I might want to do just that if the costs makes sense.

Sounds like it could be hardware since it has been gradual but maybe try resetting the Skytrak with the button underneath and then install an older version of Skytrak that worked?

Yeah tried the reset with no luck. I would agree though, seems like a hardware issue since left hand mode is fine. Appreciate the input. Anyone have any ideas what it typically costs when you send in for repairs? I guess the real question is whether it is cost effective over buying a new one?

Definitely worth repair, recalibration + diagnostic + shipping would likely be minimum charges, sub 200. If you need a new chip board, that adds to cost but nothing like buying new or refurb.

Cool thanks. Any ideas on turn around time?

I sent it into them UPS 2-day, they returned it UPS 3-Day, total time just under 2 full weeks. They extended my membership, if you’re nice and ask they may do the same =)

Hi Op, hope you can update what the damage report is after you send it in. I will need to ship it to the US to get it fixed.

Will do. I havent sent it in yet. I have just been using in left handed mode which still works fine. I am having trouble making myself send it in as I don't want to be without it. I will probably send it in this winter though as I dont use it nearly as much then. I will keep you posted what I find out though.

So, just to clarify. You're right handed and you essentially have the ST between you and the ball and you swing over top of the ST? Does your club get close to the ST at all or do you have plenty of room? Also, how tall are you?

I am interested because I will be visiting my brother-in-law whom is in the Army. He loves to play golf, but he is left handed and I am hesitant to take my ST if it is too much of a PITA to set-up. I am only 5'9", but he is 6'5", so wondering if it would be better to leave it in right-hand mode and have him swing over it. Or, since I am more familiar with the ST if I should be the one to swing over it.

Left handed mode just reversed the laser. To test it in left handed as a right handed player you place between legs mostly because of net/screen set ups. No need to do that as a left handed swinger, the unit will sit across from a left handed player. You can toggle between right and left and move unit so all hit in same direction. If you don’t have enough width for left and right players, this can be an issue.

Yes that's exactly right. I am 6'0 tall and had plenty of room with all clubs. By plenty of room I mean a couple of inches. Honestly though if it wasnt already broken, I would be too nervous to do it like this. Alphas suggestion would be better if you have a wide enough space. If you go my route you could always put some kind of padding on the top and side in case it did get hit.
