I’ve tested many different golf balls out and the chrome soft soccer balls are the way to go. That way you don’t have to mark balls up or deal with misreads.
Welcome, and thanks for the tip! I think it's a YMMV thing though, and it depends on lots of variables i.e. mat, lighting, level of Skytrak versus mat etc..
I hear you. All those factors definitely play a role. I still believe if you hold all variables constant that you will get more joy out of the Skytrak unit using something like the soccer balls that are already marked up.
1. The ball is machine marked up all the way around so you don’t have to think about ball placement.
2. No need to mark the ball yourself
3. You don’t run the risk of sharpie marks ending up on your screen.
4. Friends typically find hitting soccer balls to be fun
i know everyone likes hitting pro Vs or very high end balls but I’ve been scratch and now I’m a 3 index and I don’t see any playability difference in the sim. I have found that I crack those soccer balls quickly. To be fair I bought 100 high grades soccer balls off eBay and they just may be a bad batch.
Some have said that the soccer ball markings come off on the screen, so you may want to watch out for that.
Interesting. That didn’t happen for me. I did sharpie a ball the first time I used it and there is still a mark from that. I’d imagine the screens make a difference.
I am glad to read when someone with your skill level shares their experience with equipment. Especially since I have tried the Truvis balls too and at my handicap I don't notice any difference between the balls. I mostly chose to play ProV1x because that is what low handicap players recommend for me.
I love my Volvik Vivids and the SkyTrak seems to like them also...Red is my favorite only because in real golf it drives my buddies nuts and it lights up the hole.

I tried gaming the Volvo’s a couple times on real golf courses. They were great on drives and approaches but I cold never get feel with them while chipping and even more so with putting.
As others have said, they leave tiny little red marks on my screen AND they crack after a few hundred hits. I'm currently hitting Kirkland 3-piece balls in my sim and they are holding up well.
