Considering getting a ST for use at the driving range - will ST fit for my purpose?

Also, I am wondering if there would be any advantage or disadvantage of buying the unit in the US as opposed to Japan. It seems like there might be better software offerings from the US but I wonder if that would present issues for warranty or repair.

I just spoke with the guys at SkyTrak in Japan and they explained that there is different software for the mobile version and the PC version. The PC version comes all together as a set (including PC and monitor) so runs around $5,000 altogether. That doesn't really fit my needs as I would be using for outdoor (either at the driving range or on my balcony) wihtout a permanent setup.

However, he said that the mobile version doesn't have any simulated courses so it would be restricted to just practice and then driving contest and near-pin. This doesn't sound like what I would want either.

I am wondering if I bought in the US, if the ipad version comes with simulation courses or if any of the other software can be used with iPad?

No simulated courses within Skytrak app for iOS, only range, challenge, matrix, mapping, etc. you would have to upgrade your Skytrak subscription to include WGT, has access to ~10 full courses. Please review that forum for more details. Extra $99 per year. I’m not sure how this applies or accessing within Japan.

Thanks for your reply. Yes, my expectations is to go with the full "Play & Improve" plan which should give me access to the WGT simulation. I think the 10 courses should be enough for my purpose. Is there any restriction for access to overseas? Anyone know?

I have been in touch with Skygolf Customer service and I am getting various responses from several CS agents. Firstly, they had suggested that, if I purchased the unit in the US and then took it out of the country, then the warranty would be VOID. I found this extremely hard to believe so I had to dig a little deeper into what they meant by that, then it was clear that they meant that they couldn't support warranty service in Japan. If I brought it back to the US for warranty repair from a US address (which I have) then they could provide warranty service.

Additionally, I am inquiring about WGT and their CS suggested that if WGT didn't come with the units sold in Japan, then it probably wouldn't work here if I bought the unit in the US and brought it to Japan. Again, I find that very hard to believe and assume that the reason it isn't offered on the unit here is due to either translation into Japanese of the software or because of some licensing issues. E6 is the only simulation software offered in Japan at the moment so I am sure this is just a licensing issue.

Can anyone here confirm whether or not the US until would work in Japan? It is just software from the unit connecting to the iPad over internet, right? There isn't any kind of regional blocking based on ip address or anything like that is there?
