  • E6 chipping and putting question

    Fixed or not?

Older posts noted that green side and fringe chipping is broken. 20 yards or less and putting. I am experiencing this firsthand with the E6 trial version. Never an issue with WGT.
I do like the flight models better than WGT overall but putting and chipping can be a deal killer for sure.
Does anyone currently use the full E6 1.6 with Skytrak and can highlight their experience and recent shortcomings with the software?
Pls don’t post you should “use TGC instead”, I understand.
    Thx!!

I am interested in this also. We love to play scramble. And E6 offers it. But if you can't putt of chip that's a deal breaker.

Go with ten foot gimmes (The SkyTrak +/- 3 degrees), chip from "fringe" or close to green "rough" with a six iron, putting style (I started doing that for real golf!). Chips read only if there is some elevation of the ball. Your close enough in real life to putt, but the program refuses to read it. These sim programs seem to put the SkyTrak into a putting mode...I think TGC does also. There's a TGC patch for skytrak that makes putts straight, I presume regardless of the skytrak directional read. I had TGC, JNPF and e6 rented for one year. I stuck with e6 for the flexibility in play, different tee box choice, graphics just fine, and other feel good reasons. By the way, sand bunkers in e6 play just like fairway...a gentle pick it off with a chip or pitch works better than a flat fat sand shot that nevertheless shows to carry thirty yards from a shortside bunker.

That "picking" off the sand is something to try in real golf also.

      Thx.
Good call on 10 fit auto putts.
What do you mean by the Skytrak +/- 3 degrees?
After additional play in the e6 demo software, chipping from the fringe with the flag stick near is IMPOSSIBLE.
The number of misreads with PW-LW is entirely unplayable and you are forced to go high and very long past the stick only to repeat this.
It’s a shame because when you mess around with chipping in practice mode it seems to read the shots better.
I’ll try a bump with a 6I, but have doubts.
The number of misreads in e6 is oddly higher than anything I’ve experienced besides prior hardware issues described in my other posts.
e6 if you are reading this, please fix it! Maybe Seth or Skygolf can raise this with the vendor.
Otherwise I really do like the package but cannot envision a subscription at this time.

I had E6 for a year and loved the some aspects of the software but short chipping is brutal and putting is even worse, much happier with JNPG.

For the record I called e6, they believe it’s a Skytrak issue.

I don’t necessarily buy that since chipping works fine in the native Skytrak software?

However, I clearly don’t know enough to solve it on my own.

The explanation received was that the software simply takes the data from Skytrak, there are no minimum parameters, etc. they cannot support misreads and no one has recently called in with this issue.

Any chance you can reach out to e6 and either validate or invalidate? If not, no worries. Thx!

Try this for putts and chips: set the ball about an inch outside the red dot and a bit behind. You may find more reads and better tracking.

                  HOLY COW! IT WORKED.
I went into practice mode on several holes within the demo for greenside chips, fringe and putts.
Easily 95% of the shots were read and remained accurate, had just a couple of 'triple green indicator' no reads.
I literally moved the ball about an inch towards me and about an inch or so back, that was all.
So strange, would not have crossed my mind.
                  SOLVED.

Holy crap - that's great news! I've played on E6 Sim at a local bar and found it enjoyable... The only thing that bugged me on this one is that they put the projector under that ramp that you have to putt over and I found the putting a little unrealistic, but not too bad. If you've found a way to make it feel better than using TGC (for the short game), it may be worth another look.

Is there still the problem though with NO SOUND, on the E6 demo that seems to be reported up here?

Yep! I downloaded the demo yesterday and couldn’t get any sound. It really bugs me cus it takes away a lot of the experience. Is there any TruGolf reps on this forum?

Using the ball placement suggested by another user: 1-2 inches closer to you and 1-2 inches set behind the red dot I can confirm that putts read, using auto align setting and greens set to medium it actually provided enjoyable feedback. I can not compare to TGC unfortunately.
For sound I used my laptop speakers not my second display (tv). Not sure if it’s a demo bug or full software issue. Sound from my tv isn’t a deal breaker for me. Hearing my club strike the ball is sufficient, I don’t need that repeated, but hearing a ball plop when landing as well as ambient sounds should be a basic ask.

Other than the sizzling intro, the only sound I've heard is birds...peacocks are really annoying! I turn the sound off. Could really improve the experience with better sound...announce players up, etc. However, with a drunken crowd playing, don't need no extra sound. LOL! The dreaded OB: OBs aren't marked during play, but you can move the targeting stick around to see both of terrain outline and landing areas...rough, tall grass (deadly!), earth (not good!) and OB.

I’ve signed up for e6 1.6 subscription. There are no sound issues in the full version, it works perfectly fine, but agree the demo version has a bug.
No putting and chipping issues, a couple misreads here and there experienced but wouldn’t say it’s out of the ordinary.
Very happy with this software thus far.

What sound are you getting? All I ever get is birds. Is there anything else?
