    Won my League Championship

I have had my Skytrak and Sim room set up for 1 1/2 years. When I started out my league 9 hole Handicap was between 13 and 14. During Last years season my handicap moved between 11 and 12. This month I won my league championship and my handicap is now 9 for 9 holes. My league plays at a par 65 so par for the week is either 32 or 33. I shot 37 one week which I thought was amazing (I was actually -1 after five holes.)

My improvement came from several places.

First, I learned Aimpoint Express for putting which has really made a difference as I am much better at reading greens that I was two years ago. The main improvement here is on long putts where even if I miss, I usually end up within a couple of feet.

This year I continued improving my putting by using the Putt Out pressure trainer. My main use of this tool was to figure out different speeds for different distances. I make more puts outside of 5 feet than I used to.

The Skytrak has really made a huge difference for me in chipping a pitching. I carry a card with all of my pitching and chipping distances which I created with Skytrak. At first my playing partner laughed at me. Now he sees the value and he is always telling everyone about the card I carry for distances. The card has 9I - Lob wedge distances with swings at 7:00, 8:00, 9:00 10:00.
For 7:00 and 8:00 I also have numbers for whether I am using a locked wrist or I am hinging my wrist. These numbers give me a good chance of chipping close to the hole. (Pitching, I can get close to Pin high but I am still not great at direction.)

Changing to a tour ball made a difference as well. I now play Pro V1. I compared the spins on the skytrak and it convinced me to stop playing low quality balls. I used to hit through the green all the time. Now that happens rarely.

I have had some improvement on my longer game. I have been able to try out different ideas for swings and it is good to have the feedback of ball speed, direction and spin. It was especially helpful when trying to increase my swing speed for my driver. I was hitting my driver with a carry of about 200 yards. After watching some videos on the internet I began trying ideas to increase my swing speed. It was easy to tell whether the changes I was making made a difference just by looking at ball speed and carry distance. At this point I am getting between 210 and 220 carry. I plan on continuing to try and improve this over the winter as I would like to get a constant 240 carry which mean I would not have to layup on a couple of hole I do today.

One more thing. When I first started with the skytrak I complained that all my distances were coming up short. I discovered over time that the distance I thought I was carrying was generally off by 10 yds. This is because I do not always make perfect contact. Perfect contact would give me my expected distances but I was only seeing it one out of 10 times during practice. By knowing this, I began taking extra club on the course and began hitting many more greens (especially with PRO V1 and not having the ball roll out off the back of the green.

I am taking a break for a couple of months because my elbows are not in the best shape. When I start practicing next year I am really looking forward using the random practice feature. I think it will be a huge help.

The other things I plan to work on this winter:

    Swing Speed on my driver
Making pure contact with the ball (it was pretty wet here this year and with the wet ground I discovered that I hit the ground first a lot more than I should causing huge divot and loss of speed)

I hope to continue seeing improvement next season.

Congrats man.. exciting stuff and always nice to hear about someone putting in the time to get better... WITH A PLAN! Many of the guys I play with complain about how they can't get any better and that they hate golf (yet they continue to play every week). Well guess what, like everything else in life.... you get out of it what you put into it! Over the last 1.5 to 2 years I put myself through hell while going through a massive swing change. At the time that I decided to do this I was 7 hcp. Some may ask.... your a 7 what are you doing.... well I am 47 now and I know that I was very much getting by on god-given athleticism and very good eye/hand coordination. Being a physical therapist I know the days are numbered before I lost at least some of the eye/hand that I have. That said, I took lessons.... watched a million youtube videos, studied the science of the golf swing and practiced. Practiced more than I played in fact! Well about 2 months ago I finally started to "get it!". My swing is not longer based on eye/hand coordination and luck. It's repeatable and based on science (see "Ball Flight Laws"). Very satisfying to say the least! My hcp had ballooned to a 12 from a 7 and now I am back near 10 and I expect that number to be back in the 7 range by mid summer next summer. Two weekends ago I shot a 77 and I had not shot a round in the 70's for almost 2 years. Anyway, I write all this to say a true congratulations for your accomplishments and the clear dedication you have put in to improving your game. Nothing drives me more crazy than hearing my friends bitch and complain about their game when I know they do next to nothing to actually do anything about it. One word of advice... take advantage over the winter to do some strength and flexibility exercises/rehab for those elbows and forearms.... it will go a long way to getting you ready for a pain-free next season!
