  • Laser for Skytrak turning on and off?

Alright guys, we have two Skytraks in two rooms run by different computers. Both simulators use The Golf Club. We'll call them room 1 and room 2 to simplify things. We finished room 1 and played it while we were working on room 2. No issues whatsoever works great. When we finished room 2 and started using it, the lazer on the skytrak kept turning on and off when prepping for a shot. It does this both in the skytrak app on any mode, as well as within The Golf Club software.

Suspecting a defective unit we swapped it out with the Skytrak in room 1. To our surprise the skytrak that had been malfunctioning in room 2 worked fine in room 1, and the Skytrak that worked fine in room 1, had the laser turning on and off in room 2.

Both units are running the most current firmware release. Both units have been tried in USB mode, Network mode, and Direct mode. There's no change in any of the modes.

Both rooms are windowless eliminating sunlight as a factor, however room 2 has directional LED lighting where the ball is placed. Room 1 has diffused LED lighting.

At this juncture the only thing that makes sense to me is either:

    A lighting issue

Or an issue with the computer.

I've looked through the forums but couldn't find a post with someone having quite the exact same problem. Any input is appreciated.

That's a good one for sure. Switch the computers in the room to eliminate that. Is there anything reflective in the room? Try it with the lights off using a flashlight, Maybe there is excessive flicker. Make sure there are no programs running in the background that might cause connection issues.

Yea, this is essentially what we were experiencing

It ended up being the power block it was plugged into. At some point it got swapped with a generic one.

Wow, I was racking my brain on this one. So you're saying that the SkyTrak unit was false triggering in room 2 because of a generic power supply???

I can say with certainty that was the issue. We ordered some 15' USB chargers for the units to switch back and forth from left to right handed easily. They came with the Wallplug -> USB adapters that are the same voltage and amperage as the OEM ST adapters. Room 1 had already had the OEM ST wall adapter setup, room 2 was finished AFTER the cables were ordered and we just used the adapter they came with in that room.

As soon as the unit is unplugged from the generic brick it quits false triggering, as soon as it is plugged back in it starts doing it quite a lot.

What's odd is it'll do it a lot after a legitimately registered shot it will false trigger for 30-40 seconds and then stop. As soon as the club head approaches the ball again, it will lapse into false trigger cycle again.

I've got a background in tech and have a very feeble understanding of how these things work and I can't quite quantify the circumstances we were experiencing. BUT in the future if ST owners are having problems with missed shots, I think it would definitely be important on a trouble shooting level to inquire about the charging equipment they're using.

We've had the OEM ST brick on the unit with the generic cable for many 4 person 18 hole sessions now without issue!
