I'm new to the golf sim world. My Skytrac should arrive in a few days. A few questions. I purchased the play more & Improve plan. But I want to buy another add on plan. Any suggestions? No kids will using the skytrac and I am open for ideas. My priority with the Skytrac is to dial in my mid irons and wedges. I was also curious if it mattered what ball type I use or does it matter? Finally, should I purchase any additional warranty?

I bought a Skytrak and TGC to play rounds of golf. I have thoroughly enjoyed it. It's expensive, but a lot of fun. I'm at the point now where I have 6 golf bags 'stored' over winter in my sim and playing a weekly round with 3 friends. I've ended up playing more in the sim than I do outside.
I've found that the sim, both the options with play and improve plans and round of golf have dramatically improved my game. I now can trust my distances. I still duff shots and don't hit them all straight, but I am very consistent with the distance they go. it should help - it is just repetition after all.
I've not found any issues with ball type. I am using real balls. I've ended up added extra lines on my balls with permanent markers - it helps reduce the number of misreads and no reads.
I would get the additional warranty. I would make sure you bought the case. That is a must. I've hit my Skytrak direct a few times and many, many times with ricochets.

OK here's my experience FWIW.
(1) Add-on plan: if you want to sim a golf round without tournaments, fuss, putting difficulties, need for high-end PC etc. get Fitness golf. It's a one-time payment ($299.00 at present), 160+ courses, not the most modern, not the most sophisticated, but a very reasonable price and FUN FUN FUN.
(2) Yeah sure it's fun to hit long drives in my golf cave, but to really improve I always work on 30-140 yds. That's where my scoring is done on the course. ST is ideal for this - I set it to generate random pins from 30-140 yds and I try to cover all of these with 8I, 9I, PW, GW, SW. DIAL 'EM IN - it really makes a difference. I also endlessly practice (things like) GW arms at 9 o'clock total shot 32-40 yds offline + or - 4 yds. This makes a huge difference on the course. I know now that I hit a GW 9 o/c average 35 yds. On course all I have to do is execute. The guys that I play with mock me about this nerdyness - until I stiff it.
(3) Try different balls with ST. You may be surprised at the difference. e.g. my full SW shots with a Callaway Chromesoft backspin TWICE AS MUCH as with a Callaway Supersoft. The flight is also very different as is the hang time, descent and side spin.
(4) My additional warranty is a ST FMJ. Get some hard bouncy metal around that device!

I agree with everything above! I have had mine for 6 months and had nothing but good times. Here are a few things to keep in mind.. IMO...
1) 99% of the time the skytrak is accurate regardless of how your playing..
2) You will collect a TON of your friends bags,clubs,gloves,clothes and haggered balls.
3) If you and your friends are drinkers (like mine) prepare for that expense!
4) Take some time to figure out ball placement!! My irons and wedges are almost always good reads near the dot... my driver placement is way diff!!
5) TGC IS AMAZING
6)You are going to go threw a lot of balls.. they matter..if you can spin and check a ball than practice that way, this requires a premium ball. If you can’t “spin” it buy a premium ball and practice until you can; your handicap will thank you later.
7) BE CAUTIOUS OF WHO YOU LET PLAY! They can be damaged and I’ve seen them hit very hard! Get the metal case it’s worth every penny.Comment
