Is Skytrac so bad ?

Hello,
I am planning to buy a Skytrac in order to build a personal home simulator and I am not sure if I make the right decision. After reading all the posts related to Skytrac/GC2 on this forum looks like there is a compromise that people are ready to make in order to pay less for a Skytrac(vs GC2). My question: is it so bad that you cannot use it to enjoy a game or practice or is just bad reviews from people that compare it with GC2/other simulators ?

I love my Skytrak! Lots of people do. Would I trade it for a GC2? Sure. But, does that mean I don't like it? Nope. It's extremely enjoyable, especially playing TGC.

Thanks for your response ! So what will be the worst case scenario: missing some shots, not 100% accurate, limited outdoor usage ?

To me the biggest things are 1) shot delay (2-3 secs vs <1 sec) and 2) accuracy of horizontal launch angle (especially on slower shots - most notably putting). But neither is anywhere close to a deal-breaker or something that would take away from enjoying the unit.

GC2 is a superior device, but at 3x the cost, it definitely is not 3x better in my opinion. If GC2 isn't in your budget, but Skytrak is...just do it. Don't hesitate.

I absolutely love my skytrak. With that said the gc2 doesn't have the delay you get with skytrak and it may have fewer non reads than the skytrak. The gc2 requires the expense of changing flashes where the skytrak does not.
I can see myself getting a gc2 in the near future but I have zero regrets from having my skytrak. Totally enjoyed working on my game on the skytrak range. Fine tuning carry yardages with their greens.

I absolutely love my ST and enjoy the tournaments as well as practicing. I have experienced some growing pains with learning ball placement, lighting, or background visuals but all in all I am very happy. In my limited opinion the only advantage GC2 has over the ST is the ability to incorporate HMT. Some have said it's possible for ST to develop some type of HMT hardware to add on in the future.

I am happy to put up with the occasional con to save a few thousand bucks.

I love mine too. When it's set up properly, it's almost perfect. I am a high handicapper though IRL. Some learning curve with ball placement etc. I have only seriously started to play golf end of 2018 and took lessons. Since the last 4 months, I have hit 300-500 balls a week, mostly practicing form. I sprayed balls everywhere. Now I can clearly see my improvement and can draw the ball on most occasions. I have picked up 30 yards on most clubs. I have at most, 4-5 no reads during a 100 ball session. I do not have high ball speed however.

As others have stated, GC2 is a great product and designed for the commercial space, and you pay for that. It just depends on what you're after.

I had Skytrak in V1 of my simulator build and it is very hard to beat . In terms of constant product improvement , support and value for money you simply cannot go wrong with Skytrak.

For most bang for buck, Skytrak is definitely up there with the big boys.

I love my Skytrak I don't get to use it as often as I like due to not having an indoor space of my own to use it. With that aside its been a great investment and tool to help my golf game off season and during the season

Love mine. Have no complaints for the price tag. Super fun keeps me entertained all winter. But I also have TGC. If i only had skytrak i sont think i would use it as much.

Not a fair comparison, it's like leaving the BMW dealership and getting into a Toyota.
You'd buy the BMW if money wasn't an object, but it is, and most of the complaints I see are user error or setup improperly.
Love mine, no desire to upgrade, but you have to compare apples to apples, cause I'd like the 3x more no doubt.

As others have stated, GC2 is a great product and designed for the commercial space, and you pay for that. It just depends on what you're after.

It’s helped my game a lot.
Also worth mentioning the continued development on the software side, regularly releasing software updates and having a range of simulator software options (E6, TGC, CG3D, Fitness, ProTee).

I have used GC2, Flightscope, Trackman, Sports Coach and Optishot( We all started somewhere**) in the simulator world. I can honestly say I wouldn't even hesitate about buying a Skytrak. For the money it's your best bang for buck. I put it off for a few years because I was worried about the shot delay but like most people have mentioned you don't even notice it after a while. I have all my stats from the other launch monitors and Skytrak is pretty close to them all but at a fraction of the cost. For the money I will put up with the shot delay.
