  • Case Questions (FMJ)

    Hey Guys,
I have a SKyTrak that I am currently using in my indoor teaching studio. (My FlightScope just doesn't get enough ball flight inside, but the SkyTrak is so good I'm considering using it outdoors also) anyway.. I got it from a buddy and he has one of the plastic cases on it. It looks like SkyTrak doesn't event sell them anymore. Since I'm teaching all different skill levels of golfers it does get hit from time to time. The plastic case so far has been a champ. I've seen it get hit pretty good (even falling over) but has protected the unit. I was looking in the FMJ case for better protection. A few questions..

From those who have gone from the plastic to metal, is the metal really that much better?

Are the legs able to be taken off? I have a hitting mat that is the entire room so the skytrak needs to sit level with the mat.

What about the top of the FMJ? Sometimes I will get a few balls that 'bounce' a bit off the impact and come close to the top of the unit.

Any insight would be very helpful!

    Thanks, Chris.

I never had the plastic case for comparison, but I have put the FMJ case through some abuse and I can confirm it's durability. Yes, the three legs can be removed from the case so it will be just about flush with the floor. The top of the FMJ has a metal handle so you can transport it comfortably and also protects the top of the ST.

I've had both cases from Skytrak. The metal one is by far superior. You can take the 3 legs out for sure. I have the legs screwed in upside down for my set up. Just needed a small adjustment for leveling and the pads of the legs were too thick. Also I have a couple of 1 1/2" aluminum strips with 2 holes drilled in them which i've fastened down to the mat for left and right play.
That way I just pop the front 2 legs in the holes and the positioning stays the same after being aligned.

Hi, Would you be able to show some pictures of this setup? My wife is LH and this sounds very appealing. Thanks!

I took another look at my FMJ last night and realized I was wrong about the handle. There is in fact a metal handle, but the spacing is wide enough for a ball to make contact with the top of the ST. I have had my ST since December of 2017 and I can't think of a time where a ball got close to bouncing off the top.
