  • Should my Skytrak work outdoors for simulator golf

    Hi

I've just got my Skytrak and so far its picking up most shots quite well but i cant get it to read any putts at all - i'm just using the driving range app at the moment, and am at my local course range. I've not yet bought any simulator software and am now worried that it would be a waste of money if it wont work outside. Unfortunately my house/garden isnt big enough to build my own proper simulator room.

    any help much appreciated!!

I use TGC 2019 and the Skytrak app in my backyard in a shaded area. It does not like sunlight.

Hi Rich - SkyTrak will work outside if you are hitting under an enclosure or a shady area off of a mat. As long as you are not in direct sunlight you will be good to go!

As per previous tips on here (not sure who to give credit to!) - place the ball 3-4 inches to the right of the red dot (assuming you're a right hander) and putt through the dot. It read the putt with much more consistency, it seems.

I always putted 6-8 inches to the right used the dot as my spot. I spot putt outdoors too. It worked great.

The SkyTrak app doesn't have a putting feature. If you get TGC or other simulation software, you will be able to putt as the SkyTrak switches to 'putting' mode.

Hey thanks all for advice. Finally got a chance to test it at the driving range today. It did start to pick up putt shots on the driving range app but it did require quite a firm hit... i'd guess a real put would have gone very far on a actual green. Is this normal via the app, would the sensitivity of it be much better when playing TGC2019?

thanks again for all the help,

as per earlier replies - the normal range app isn't set-up to read putts. It does switch into putting mode when in simulator games though (WGT, TGC etc). At that point, use the technique of placing the ball 3-4 inches to the right and putt through the red dot.

Perfect!!! I download a demo of Truegolf and linked it up to my old laptop that is nowhere near the processing requirements of the game but.... it picked up putts and chips really well. even works on the home putting mat that i have too. I feel really confident that buying into the full software (and new laptop!) is going to be worth it.

Thanks to all, that's made a real difference! Cant wait to get TGC 2019 up and running now!
