  • Finally able to connect SkyTrak in Network Mode with my iPhone X as a hotspot

Hi All, my build is outdoors on a rooftop balcony. I can get a decent enough signal to enjoy the ST and simulation there, however, I am subject to the elements (rain, direct sunlight, heat), which has been quite unpredictable this year. I have taken my ST to the driving range to collect data, do bag mapping or other things, but the driving range doesn't have wi-fi and I had never been able to connect to my iPad and SkyTrak to the internet using my iPhone as a hotspot (although it seems theoretically, it should be able to do that).

I have read a few posts here where some people are able to connect with the iPhone while others are not so I thought I would share how I was able to get it working. Initially, when I connected the device to my Ipad in Direct Mode and then try to change to Network Mode, I wouldn't even have my iPhone recognized as a hotspot. I read some of the advice here and from ST that I probably needed to shorten my hotspot name, which I did, but no success. It would still not recognize. I tried tinkering a bit with the security settings of the iPhone, e.g., from open to WEP, etc., as well (but not sure if that had anything to do with anything). Then I tried to shorten the password as well. After a few trial and errors of resetting the ST, I could finally get the ST to recognize my iPhone in the network wizard. I connected with that and it seemed to search for and find the network (middle light stayed yellow). Unfortunately, the ST remained in "Discovering" Mode until the ST went into sleep and shut itself off.

About to give up, I connected the iPad to the phone's hotspot directly and then relaunched ST and it jumped into Network mode right away. I was also able to connect to WGT and start a simulation round with no problem. This was all a dry test as I did it in my living room rather than at the range so I will try that sometime soon. I did also notice that WGT bumped off (or went into searching for device mode) when the iPhone went into sleep mode. Will investigate that a bit more.

Just thought I would share in case that helps anyone.
