  • TGC 2019 or E6 on Mac with Bootcamp??

    Hi,

I started the free trial of E6 with iOS and thought it seemed ok although the graphics on iOS aren't great. Since I have all Macs, I thought about trying E6 out with Bootcamp. It all starts ok with download and setup but as soon as I try to select SkyTrak as the monitor, it crashes once and then will never even startup again. I have opened an E6 support ticket and am waiting for their feedback.

In the meantime, I have heard that someone could use TGC2019 on Mac with Bootcamp so I started looking into this option as well. TGC2019 looks great and I really like the idea of being able to design your own courses and think it would be really cool to be able to design my home courses and practice up before I play.

My question is, has anyone here successfully run TGC2019 on Mac with Bootcamp and what was your experience with it. Is it any slower than running on an actual Windows machine? E6 is great because they have a 30-day demo but TGC2019 does not. SkyTrak's website explicitly says, "no refund". For TGC2019, it seems much more economical to spend $900 on the one-time purchase rather than $500 for the annual subscription. Either way, that's too much money to drop if it won't even work on my setup. (then I would be forced to drop another $1500 on another gaming computer.

The specs on my MacBook Pro are fairly high as it is a 2017 3.1 GHz Dual-Core Intel Core i5 with 16 GB RAM with the Intel Iris Plus Graphics 650 1536 MB Graphics Card.

Does anyone know if TGC2019 will will work on this Mac running BootCamp? Any insight anyone would have would be greatly appreciated.

    Cheers,

    Stephen

I suspect you won't find the experience very good because of the integrated graphics on the MacBook Pro. I remembered running JPNG that way on my MacBook Pro and the graphic rendering was not very good.

I'm very curious as to how it will run, I have to admit! An external graphics card might be a solution if it doesn't run all that well but I think the game has to be updated for external cards to work (If I'm not mistaken) .

Well, it was much better than on my iPad (and with a bigger screen) but it was still a bit jerky. After playing the demo course a few times, I didn't think it was all that bad. I am new to Windows though so trying to figure out how to record the screen to post some video.

Being a Mac/Apple guy you probably know that the normal iPad is the weakest in the iPad line in handling graphics applications. The new iPad Air and up has much better graphics and should perform better. I may give the E6 Connect demo a try and let you know.

you are absolutely correct. At the time that I bought the iPad, it was with the intention of running WGT since that was all that was available in the iOS ecosystem. After E6 Connect launched the iOS compatible product, that really opened my eyes to the possibilities.

As I mentioned above, the E6 connect was a bit jerky on my MBP with Boot Camp. I have just decided to give a try with TGC + TGC 2019 combo pack through SkyTrak as I was really interested in the number of courses and the course design tool. As it took a while to install and it takes a little time to set up my net and simulation system, I haven't actually had a chance to test it out on my Skytrak, the graphics seem much better (for example with the course flyover) than E6. I will try to report back here later.

It ran fine on my MBP with Bootcamp. I have recently upgraded to a gaming laptop though as I am doing some course designing nowadays and it was just too slow on the MBP. For just normal gaming, it was fine. I never had a chance to take any screen videos while on MBP though.

So you were able to play tgc 2019 even on live tournaments (if they require more power not sure?) .
Considering uograding to skytrak from optishot but don't feel like buying a gaming computer

I'm thinking about picking up a used MacBook Pro... currently have a late 2013 edition but wondering how "new" I'll have to go to get TGC2019 running "well enough." Sounds like the 2017 model handled it decently! Any input would be appreciated!!

I think it would be fine for gaming, but if you are going to spend money, I would definitely recommend getting a gaming PC/laptop. Even if you don’t plan on designing courses, you probably will once you you get into the game, the difference in designer between PC and Mac is significant.

Did you have any issues with shot detection? I'm trying to get the same macbook pro + bootcamp setup going but am running into issues. The skytrak connects to windows as expected, shows up as a USB device, and in the skytrak software I'm am to see it connected via USB and all three lights are green on the skytrak device. However, when I hit shots nothing ever gets picked up. The top light never switches to red. But.....I'm able to disconnect everything, switch the skytrak over to an iPad and everything works as expected.
