  • The Golf Club 2019 vs. E6 Connect

I have had my SkyTrak for a little over a year now and have enjoyed the practice as well as playing WGT with my iPad. After E6 came out with the iOS version and 30-day demo, it seemed pretty good but I wanted a little more out of the graphics. I started digging deeper and now realized that I can actually play the Windows version on my MacBook Pro with Boot Camp.

Now that I realized that the Windows versions are opened up to me, I am trying to decide between E6 and The Golf Club 2019. I can demo E6 and get a good feel for what it is, however, I can't demo TGC.

E6 Connect is $300/year and TGC 2019 is a one-time purchase of close to $1000. Long-term, I think TGC 2019 is a better deal although since there is no demo version, I need to rely on everyone's comments to make a decision. Does anyone have any opinions of comparing the two if you have played both or what made your decision to chose one over the other?

One of the things that really appeals to me about TGC 2019 is the ability to design your own courses. I am a member of a Country Club here in Japan that allows me to play about 8 of its sister courses and I thought it would be pretty cool to design those courses, even in a relatively simplistic form, and be able to practice those courses. This should be good at least for working on course strategy. What is everyone's opinion of this? Has anyone done this? Is it more work than it is worth?

    Cheers,

    Stephen

I'm going to go with one or the other in the next few days and it's a big purchase so I want to cover all of my bases. Thanks!
Having played both, here is my assessment. (Granted I only played the demo of E6 so take it with a grain of salt).

    Advantages of TGC19:

-- More courses than you could ever play, with more added basically every week. The ability to play your local courses is cool.

-- Ability to design your own courses

-- Includes a particular course in the south that hosts a popular tournament every April. Given how protective this course is of their branding, I doubt it will ever be available in E6 unless E6 implemented the ability to design your own courses.

-- Better graphics. That's not to say E6 graphics are bad. They just aren't quite as good as TGC (in my opinion). TGC graphics have more little details like divots, pitch marks and ball trails in sand. Others may have their own opinions of course. Again, I only played the E6 demo but that was my takeaway.

-- Much more robust tournament scene. The E6 tournament scene will likely grow over time as the number of users increases, but it would have a long way to go to catch up to the TGC community. Fields of 150+ every week for the tour that follows the PGA Tour schedule. Tons of societies. You can find many tournaments to play in at literally any time of day any day of the week. TGC tournaments have crowds and grandstands, which is pretty cool. No crowds in the E6 tournaments.

-- E6 has no lie penalties or uphill / downhill effects when using Skytrak or Mevo+, so every shot just plays the yardage whether you're in the middle of the fairway or the deep rough or a bunker. TGC has lie penalties and elevation effects no matter which launch monitor you use so there's actually a penalty for missing fairways and greens along with the need to account for uphill or downhill shots. More true to real golf in this respect.

-- More sound effects (ball hitting flagstick, crowd applause, etc.)

-- Handicaps that update every week and are applied to tournament play

-- Way cheaper in price. E6 makes you pay annually for peer to peer play or tournament play, which you'll be paying forever. TGC is just a one-time purchase for everything. The long-term costs for E6 will add up big time.

    Advantages of E6:

    -- Scramble mode

    -- More kid-friendly games

    -- More frequent updates

-- Some argue slightly better ball physics but the spin on the green is weird on E6. TGC has a "big first bounce" thing on low shots so they both have their quirks with ball physics.

-- Might be others that I'm not thinking of?

TGC2019 is excellent. 99% of the guys are great on discord. Many live matches, skins game leagues etc.... 🗑 talk galore

Just wanna point out that this isn't true. In E6 you do lose or gain carry distance when going uphill / downhill. But there are indeed no lie penalties.

Got it. I thought uphill / downhill was not factored in either. My mistake.
