Had my first Skytrak issue tonight

Got my Skytrak last week and have had a few sessions with it without any problems. Tonight I encountered my first one.

Turned on the Skytrak and my iPad and the Skytrak connected in network mode. I then minimized the Skytrak app so that I could open up the WGT app. As soon as I minimized the Skytrak app, it lost connection.

Brought it back up and it immediately connected again. Minimized it and it immediately lost connection.

This happened again and again and again and again ..... literally must have been 20 times. The very second that I would minimize the app (not closing it out, but just hitting the home button on the iPad to minimize it off the screen so I could open WGT) it would instantly lose internet connection. And as soon as I would bring it back up again it would instantly connect again.

I tried it in direct mode and the same thing happened. Over and over and over again.

Ultimately I was not able to play any WGT tonight like I had wanted to. I was able to hit on the Skytrak range, because that did not require me to minimize the app. As long as I left the app on the screen it stayed connected. But every single time I would try to clear it so that I could bring up WGT it would lose connection.

What's the deal here? For the first few times that I played WGT I turned on the iPad and Skytrak and waited for it to connect (usually just a few seconds). Then I would hit the home button on the iPad to clear the Skytrak app off the screen and open up WGT. WGT would then sync up with Skytrak and I was good to go.

Any ideas as to what was happening? The WiFi signal was full bars. And we have two WiFi networks for our house and I tried them both and the same thing happened with both networks. Help??

After connection to the skytrak app close it out completely and then go into WGT. It should then search for it if you have it active within your WGT settings.

Thanks, although I was losing connection before I ever had a chance to close it out. The connection is lost as soon as I minimize the Skytrak app in order to clear the interface off the screen so that I can tap the WGT icon to open that app. So if I were to then close out the Skytrak app it would be closing out with no connection. Wouldn't that cause an issue with WGT being able to sync with it? And if not, than what would be the point of opening the Skytrak app in the first place? I thought the whole point of opening the Skytrak app was to establish an internet connection. Then once it's established you can close it out and open WGT. Am I missing something here?

Regardless, this morning it got worse. I gave the Skytrak a nice full charge last night and tried to set it up this morning. This time it wouldn't even connect at all. Not in direct mode or network mode. And worse, it seems to be stuck in direct mode now. In other words, it won't let me switch to network mode to try connecting that way. When I pull up the screen that shows the connecting options, the button that says "Connect in network mode" is not lit up or responsive. Nothing happens when I press that button. It just continues to try to connect in direct mode, even after closing out the Skytrak app and starting over again.

So now I can't use it at all. Not even the range.

I used the Skytrak (bought brand new) 4 times and had no issues. I thought I was one of the lucky ones that managed to escape all the finicky stuff. Counted my blessings too soon I guess. Any ideas? I know there's a crap load of discussions about connection issues but I don't recall seeing anything that pertains to the issue of losing connection when minimizing the app.

Sorry to hear about these issues, but I think we can get them cleared up pretty quickly.

Regarding the unit dropping connection - this is totally normal. The app is only active when it is open on screen on the iPad. When it is minimized or the iPad is turned off, the unit will lose its connection to the app. However, this does not mean the unit loses its connection to your network. If the unit was programmed correctly in network mode, then the lights in this disconnected state should be Green/Yellow/Red (from bottom to top). If the iPad is connected to the network, then whenever you open SkyTrak app or WGT, the unit should automatically connect.

About using SkyTrak and WGT - the unit can only be connected to one app. So if the unit is already in network mode, then there is no need to open the SkyTrak app. Just open WGT and it should connect automatically. If you were actually using the SkyTrak app and wish to use WGT, you need to close out (swipe up) of the SkyTrak app first.

Getting back into network mode - you need to turn on the SkyTrak unit (which is in direct mode) and then connect to it's SSID on the iPad WiFi. Then open the SkyTrak app and once it connects, go through the network mode setup wizard again.

        Clear as mud?

Thank you for taking the time to reply. I appreciate all of the contributions that you make to this forum.

I just went and fiddled with it using your advice and I was able to get both Skytrak and WGT up and running again. Strangely, it had me set up the network wizard again and I had to manually enter the two WiFi networks that I have in my home. Like it didn't save that information or something from the first time that I had done it. I don't know. But in any case, I was able to connect to both direct and network and hit a couple shots on WGT just to make sure it was working.

There was an issue getting Skytrak started up though. When you first open the app it shows a screen with the Skytrak logo and then a status bar that shows it loading. Typically it reaches 100% loading in just a couple of seconds and then takes you to the white "practice," "game improvement" or "play and improve" screen. But just now, it would load up to 100% but then never do anything else. It would just sit there on that loading screen saying that it was 100% loaded but never taking me to the next screen or doing anything. So I did a series of closing out the app, turning off the Skytrak and turning it back on again and opening the app. Did this several times before finally getting it to advance past the loading screen.

Between all the stuff you have to turn on and close out and connect, I'm wondering if there is a certain order that these have to be done in(?) Does it matter if the Skytrak app is opened before you actually turn the Skytrak on? I'm wondering if I was turning on my iPad and opening the app first and then turning the launch monitor on and maybe that was causing some kind of disconnect(?) May be a silly question I don't know.

In any case, it looks like I'm back in business and thanks again for all your continued support on this site
