WGT vs TGC2019

I currently have WGT and am very disappointed with the chipping results when compared to what I have mapped out using the wedge matrix on ST. All distances on WGT are longer than what the matrix mapped out. My question is if the chipping on TGC2019 is like WGT or more like the wedge matrix from ST?

Are you talking about chipping distances while playing a round in TGC2019? I find my chipping to be very accurate an representative of what I see in ST. Any shot in game mode though will be heavily dependent on lie, slope, firmness and speed of the green, etc. so it would be difficult to compare exactly with the results that you get on ST. I was fairly satisfied with WGT on my iPad for a little while but once I made the plunge to TGC2019, it changed the game.

Yes. Do your chips go about the same distance (1/4, 1/2, 3/4 and full) like in the wedge matrix when you have a normal lie in TGC2019? My 60 degree full swing goes about 55 yards in ST and in WGT it will go closer to 70 yards. A 1/4 swing in ST goes about 10 yards and in WGT it will go over 20 yards. I am considering getting TGC2019, but if it is no better I’m not sure I want to make the investment as I don’t have a gaming PC.

Yes, I feel that my wedges go at about the distances that I expect them to when hitting full, 3/4, 1/2 and 1/4 shots. Again, I think a lot depends on the surface you are hitting from (fringe, rough, heavy rough, etc.). I feel that TGC 2019 is well worth the investment considering the enjoyment I get out of it. I have my setup outside on a rooftop balcony so am a little limited in when I can play according to the weather but when it is nice, I can easily play 18-45 holes in one go and find the biggest difficulty is deciding which course I want to play. When the weather is not favorable, I then spend time on the designer.

The frustrating aspect of chipping on TGC2019 with the SkyTrak is after the ball hits the ground. There is a setting called "Short chip correction" for SkyTrak users. Without it, delicate chips will not read consistently. With it, they'll read but have almost no spin and roll forever. TGC already has serious issues with it's first bounce and that makes it worse.

If you're just worried about your carries they'll be the same as you see in wedge matrix.

Thanks everyone. If I do go the TGC2019 route and I am using a projector do I also need a display for the PC in order to play TGC (moving target, etc....) like WGT?

Well this has me worried now. I'm currently just playing WGT while I save up for a gaming computer and TGC2019. The short game completely ruins WGT for me. Greenside chips and pitches just run forever once they hit the green, no matter how softly you hit them. A ball that carries 2 yards in real life (not even making it to my impact screen) somehow rolls out 45 feet uphill across the green on WGT. I started turning the green speeds all the way down to the slowest setting and that helped somewhat. But it's still a guaranteed bogey or worse anytime you miss a green. And at least once per round I'll have a chipping adventure where I go back and forth across the green a few times and make a quad.

I'm a 7 handicap in real life and I struggle to break 90 on WGT and it's solely because of the chipping. Really takes away from the enjoyment and I've recently just stuck to doing the closest to the pin challenges instead of playing actual rounds for this very reason.

Given the popularity (and price) of TGC, I was assuming that it didn't have these issues. But seeing your comments makes me concerned.

Anyone else weigh in on chipping in WGT vs. TGC??

I don't have TGC, but I do have Fitness Golf and the chipping and pitching is just fine there. Little sand wedge or gap wedge shots eem to go almost exactly the same as I'd play in real life. No problems like you describe (putting is hard though so I often use auto-putt - anyway I don't really want to practise my putting in a golf cave).

I did the free trial of fitness golf and also found the chipping and pitching to be much more manageable and playable. Definitely nothing like WGT. I'm hoping TGC is closer to that than it is to WGT in that respect.

The chipping on TGC is not correct. I’m jealous of Skytrak users have the ‘Short chip correction’ option, no option like this for GC2 users.
I use TGC for fun, for serious play FSX is only option but pricey.
