  • Skytrak/WGT/iPad Network mode issues

    Hi there.

New to the boards. Was hoping someone could help out with their setup. I am running my skytrak off of a new iPad and it works perfectly in direct mode. When i try in network mode, it will connect to my WiFi and then will let me play WGT for a few shots before it freezes. On the ipad, it says "looking for devices". On the skytrak, it still has all three lights green and the red dot showing on the mat, but won't register anything. I have a Netgear Orbi mesh network system with a satellite in the garage, so i know it's not WiFi strength. I suspect that it's something with the dual band of the mesh network. Was hoping someone had an easy solution to get it to work. Not sure if there is a way to create a second WiFi network or what. Thanks!

Can you change the name of the lower band and make sure skytrak only connects to that?

I'll look into that. I guess both the ipad and Skytrak would have to be connected to it. Also thinking about trying to figure out a way to create a separate wifi network just for skytrak, but haven't figured out the best way yet.

I thought I once read something about Skytrak not getting along well with Netgear. (I may very well be dreaming this but I thought I saw that somewhere).

I also used an iPad with WGT at one point and had a lot of the same connection issues you describe.

So how'd you solve them? Or did you just move to a PC?

The only thing that solved it was getting a PC and TGC2019, which can be played in USB mode. Since switching to USB mode I've never had an issue with connection. But when I used network mode with WGT it was spotty on most days and unplayable on others. WGT is a little bit of an odd duck in that it requires you to be in network mode in order to play.

Do you have connection issues when you are just using the Skytrak range in network mode? Or do the issues only pop up when playing WGT?

You can use the lower band only for skytrak. Name that lower band skytrak so you know you are only connecting to that with the iPad and the skytrak itself. Zero issues with network mode this way.
