  • Making the move! .......................................

From Hitting net to Screen, TV monitor to projector, AND I-pad to CPU. Lots of changes! Also want to go from E6 to TGC

I am currently running my Sky Trak with Ipad and 48" TV monitor, hitting into Net Return Pro V2, mostly using the E6 software. I want to run the TGC software and have it on the hitting screen. I ordered the black simulator canopy and hitting screen, also the no fly-zone extension this week. Now am looking into a CPU so I can get rid of the terrible I-pad. I have anywhere from 2 to 10 second delay in the shot to the display on the TV monitor. That is the main reason I want to switch from the Ipad to CPU, hope this WILL help that situation! am I correct in my thinking? I am currently using the network mode on the Sky Trak through my network, I have installed a signal booster but still no help in speed, and still dropping internet and loosing connection with network. I will plan on running a direct link from my router into the CPU with CAT5 so No magic vodoo going through the air to get lost! Direct connection! I will also consider directly connecting the Sky Trak to the CPU so no Vodoo there either! I hope this alone will help the speed of shot from hitting to display! If I could do it with the I-pad I would have tried it, but I don't think its possible. I am shopping for CPU, I have read all the recommended things you need and will have at least those requirements.

Another concern I have is I have my setup in the garage, it get damn cold here in WI, I have a heater for the garage so thats not the issue. What I am slightly concerned about is the CPU and the sky Trak and the projector all being frosty cold in the garage in the middle of winter, can be -20 outside, then heating up to say 60* so its nice to play, what about condensation like on the projector lens, condensation inside the CPU, not sure about the Sky Track either? Any comments on this? I could bring the Sky Trak in the house, not a big issue, but the projector will not be able to be moved as it will be ceiling mounted, and the CPU I don't want to be hauling it in and out of the house daily!

Will I have any issues with my Sky Trak switching from I-pad to CPU, also with the E6 I am already running? Will I have to get new codes from each of Sky Trak and E6 to make the switch?

I am looking at the Optoma projectors that they recommend from Top Shelf, I have not yet purchased but will be shortly, and suggestions? I will have to be using the 4 X 3 format as the V2 screen will be approx. 8' X 8' I know I'll have dead space on the side or top, will just have to deal with it.

Any other suggestions or tips would greatly be appreciated!

    Thank you,

    Dave Schneider

    Good move!

You will still see about a 2 second delay in the shot-to-show as that's about the quickest you can get from skytrak. But you shouldn't be seeing anything more than that.

I recommend connecting via USB as opposed to network.

When you get TGC, get TGC2019 and not the old TGC.

As for the projector, how far away are you hoping (or able) to mount it?

Thank you 3on3 for your feedback! I typically hit about 6' from the face of the net, I'm hoping to back that up at least a foot when I get the no fly extension to the front for the net. I have at least 6 good dimples in my ceiling, mostly from wedge shots! I can't imagine some of these larger simulator systems that I see where people are quite away back hitting wedge shots, HOW the hell do they NOT hit their ceiling? I also have hit some tee shots off the ceiling,

I have just under 10' ceiling in the garage, I plan on using a tight mount to ceiling, can I offset the projector to the side and still get a good picture, or does it have to be mounted directly in the center? If center mounting is critical, I will then have to rethink and possibly go to the floor mount. I wanted to get the projector mount for the Net Return system, but that is ONLY for the simulator series not any of the net systems. That way it would have been mounted directly to the net, but that will not work.

I guess I am a little disappointed to say the least that there still will be a 2 second delay between shot and display! iI will still be an improvement as I said at times there is much longer times is this display! I believe with everything connected by wire instead of air waves things will be much better and NOT having to reconnect after losing Sky Trak!

I also was planning on getting the TGC 2019 not the TGC old version

      Again thanks for input!

I have another question, not sure if I should include here or in another section. With setting up using CPU, I was also planning on setting up 2 cameras, one looking at me while I was hitting and another behind, then have that display on the TV screen. Not necessarily during course play, but during practice. I know I will need a couple of camers, but what will I need on the CPU to attach the cameras to the CPU to get the display on the screen? I am assuming the CPU will have at least 2 HDMI outputs, One for the projector and the 2nd for the TV

        Thanks for Feedback!

If you are running TCG2019 you will need a dedicated graphics card and a decent CPU. I think most people here recommend a GTX1060 or above and something around an Intel 8400 or above. The only issue with dedicated cards is most run Display Port connections and only one HDMI port. You can adapt the Display Ports to HDMI but HDMI to Display port will require an active powered adapter. Remember do not connect HDMI to the motherboard with a graphics card, it should be hooked up to the graphics card. Cost-wise for a DIY PC you're looking at $650+ as a minimum. Cameras should have no issue running in the background with the specs listed.

I can't really speak on the camera question as that's not something that I've ever messed around with. But I would also assume you will need HDMI cables for that.

As far as mounting the projector to the side, you can use lens shift or keystone correction to mount it off to the side and then square up the image. Your options of projectors will be a bit more limited if you need lens shift (and possibly more expensive).

I would still try to mount overhead if I were you though. You'll have 2 feet between your ceiling and the top of your screen and then an additional 2 feet to work with assuming you'll be shooting for an 8x6 image size. If you started your image on the floor, it would be 6 feet high which gives you 4 feet to work with. That's more than plenty to mount overhead. What's the width of your space and will you be able to hit from the center of the screen? If so, mount the projector right over the ball or slightly in front or behind on that line.
