When you want to select a distance on the Skytrak the mechanism you use to do this is a slider. So what you end up having to do is slide the slider over till you get pretty close, then manually click the arrow buttons until you land on the number you want. You just gotta guess, cause there's no indication of where any distance is on the slider.
This is a cumbersome method for selecting a number. Why is there not a simple input box that allows me to type in the number I want? I don't want to guess where on this mystery slider I need to slide until I get close then click 9 more times on an arrow button. This is just stupid design.
I imagine the reason that it's a slider is because it's one unified interface between IOS and Android and Windows. It's a compromise so that it works cross platform. On a tablet or phone device it's probably an OK solution to picking a distance, but on a full computer it's a terrible solution. But technically it works so that's what we get.
I would really like to see a better user interface element for selecting distances. It is one of the things I do most often in the software and it's a pain in the ass.
Here's some ideas.
Add a simple input box allowing the user to type 120 and hit enter to select 120 yards.
Add quick distance buttons near slider element. Just give me buttons for common distances and I'll probably avoid the slider all together.
Add ticks to the bottom of the slider element indicating where common distances are instead of just making me guess.
Any number of solutions would be better than the mystery slider GUI element we have right now.
