Skytrak doesn't ready up in metal protective case

I've been trying to trouble shoot my Skytrak REE2.0. It works out of the Skytrak case no problems. When inserted into the metal protective case the top light flashes green to red, produces the laser light, but flickers off or the ready to hit light won't stay green. I have the reader screwed into the base. I've shimmed it, moved it changed its height, leveled it, altered its leveling but it won't light green ready to hit in the Skytrak case.

I've changed lighting, background color, cant figure it out

    Any suggestions?

People who have a lot of static exhibit this same problem. You can try grounding the case, someone even put dryer sheets under the case and say it helped

I was able to resolve this problem by using a higher quality power strip and moving some other electronics to a different outlet.

I have that problem when using the USB cord with my laptop. After staying on the phone with support a couple of days they said it was static electricity. From what I’ve read the best solution is get a humidifier for the colder months. I’ve been using mine in network mode only. When the battery dies I stop. Keeps me from staying on the skytrak too long. Waiting for my humidifier to arrive from Amazon. Support mentioned a rubber mat, grounding the unit, and using a spray. They also mentioned taking the case off. That’s not happening.

Someone someplace on this site mentioned shielded USB cords from Anker. I bought a couple and it worked like a charm. Have to return the humidifier when it arrives.

Lots of good info in this thread. It does appear to be static electricity and we see issues arise in these colder, drier winter months. We are looking at a grounding option for the case, but glad to hear some of these other suggestions! Will have to also check out the shielded USB cable, that sounds like a great solution.
