  • Buying SkyTrak off EBay

Morning all! New member suffering from a nasty golf addiction. Just about bored of hitting into my lockdown net and not knowing where the ball is going! Thinking about getting a SkyTrak. Obviously on back order by multiple months which isn’t ideal. Quite a few on EBay tho in the U.K. Bar the extra 400 odd premium, any other downsides/potential issues I should be wary of? The one I’m looking at looks fairly new, get the impression the guy bought a few to sell on at a profit down the line, clever! Any help greatly appreciated.

Am also planning on using it exclusively outside. Have read about hoods etc, speak now if anyone thinks won’t get the max out of it using in sunny U.K garden.

    Thanks!

    Ben

    Hi

I use mine outside cause I only have an outside setup.

Made a velcro hood for mine, works very well, if I take it off I do get no needs or miss reads, but since the hood is always on, never have problems.

Been using outside in Ireland for about 4 yrs now.

Just as long as the sun is not shining directly into the units lense, but make a hood for it, it just works better and putts really well for a cheap monitor.

Brilliant thank you. Typically we actually get lots of sun in our small garden, normally a good thing! Little part of me is tempted the splash out on a gc2, presume you’re pretty happy with the numbers you get. I can miss both ways so need to see those!

        HI

Yes I'm pretty happy with the numbers I get.

As with all new users, at first i thought the unit was faulty etc etc but the longer i've had it the more i've realized just how accurate and sensitive this thing is.

New balls vs old balls affects distance

Outside temperatures affect distance, when its about 10 degrees C outside my driver ball speed is about 145mph when its 20 degrees C outside my ball speed is about 160mph.

after unboxing most guys just smash balls and wonder why they aren't matching their on course real life numbers and think geeeezzz it must be a faulty unit.

It takes a little time to figure everything out.

GC2 great, but you might have sim option network difficulties when using outside.

I think GC2 connects with bluetooth dongles and TGC2019 needs your internet connection. Skytrak has a network mode which still lets you use your internet connection for TGC2019.

I use an Ipad pro outside which connects to my laptop inside the house via remote desktop, so i don't take my laptop outside, ipad has a better screen for outside use.

        Good luck

      Hi

I have a west facing garden in the UK so get the sun in the garden most of the day. My set up is outside and don't use any covers or hoods. Most of the time it is ok but in really strong sunshine in the summer you can get a few misreads but if its really warm then to be honest i'm happy just chilling with a beer rather than smashing golf balls! There are quite a few on ebay with a premium price at the moment. I should imagine as we get more back to life as normal the demand will gradually ease and price gradually come back down but suspect these prices on the second hand market will continue for sometime yet - just depends if you want to pay a premium and whether you think its worth it or not. Personally I think its a big premium to pay over the RRP.

From all the reviews I've watched on YouTube, I think the mevo+ works much better outdoors since it uses doppler and is not photometric. I think you made the right choice. I'm waiting on my SkyTrak that I ordered early December, but I have a setup in my garage. The wait becomes exponentially more difficult the longer it takes.

I mean, you already bought it. Might as well test it out before you even think about buyers remorse.
