  • Very low swing speed reported… but accurate distances

So, I’m having this issue with my Skytrak (skytrak app on a PC) where swing speed is not even in the ballpark, yet the distances are pretty accurate.

    let’s take a 6 iron for example. On a trackman I swing 86-88mph, on the skytrak it’s showing me anywhere from 62 - 79mph.

but here’s the kicker: the distances are fairly close, which should be impossible. Earlier I hit one 184 yards but the swing speed was 74mph. If I hit one a little fat and maybe it travels 165-175 it will register club speed in the 60’s.

now, I know it’s a calculated speed, but ball
speed is off too. I’ve seen ball speeds from mid 90’s to low 100’s. But the distance is accurate.

in fact, save for my wedges, my irons, distance side are spot on. The wedges however are under reporting distances big time. My 46 degree that I hit on the course 120-135 travels barely 95-100 in the skytrak.

Note also that in TGC 2019 the club speed seems a lot more accurate in the skytrak.

Anyone have any idea as to what the issue could be? What’s baffling me is that If it’s calculating a slow swing, the distance should be cut, but it’s not. Seriously thinking of switching to the mevo+ if I can’t fix this issue.

Are they both definitely in MPH (the same units)?

Club head speed means nothing on the Skytrak. Don't even look at it.

Post the stats of a shot that you think the distance is wrong (speed, launch angle, spin).

Yep, definitely mph (I don’t have a trackman but I just used one at club champion few weeks ago).

I figured as much… thing is I see a bunch of people getting decently accurate swing speed results on the skytrak. One thing that I’m going to test is to try the range on the IOS skytrak app and see. Because like I said, TGC 2019 is pretty accurate with the speed etc.

I may end up switching to mevo+ or may just add like a mevo or similar to get accurate metrics on speed/smash etc

Mevo Plus is coming out with a big upgrade soon that will give you about all the swing data that you need.

Remember that the Skytrak does not track the club at all, only the ball. So the 'result' is just a ballpark estimation.

Frankly unless you're doing speed training, clubhead speed isn't all that relevant. Only ball speed is.

Perhaps SkyTrak is assuming a sweet spot strike. This would result in a higher smash factor and less club head speed needed to obtain the ball speed it is reading. Trackman should be directly reading club head speed. How good is your ball striking? Have you tried spraying some foot powder to see if you are hitting the center of the club face? Maybe you’re always off the toe or heel. SkyTrak wouldn’t know that. Maybe you really are swinging 6 iron 86 mph but a poor strike is robbing you of distance.

Maybe your home setup is drastically different from Club Champion resulting in crazy low spinners that go far. Comparing data on shots you deem “similar” between the two units would reveal this.

That’s the problem lol, I am doing speed training

It could be… I have the same fiberbuilt mat, my net is a bit closer (but for skytrak that shouldn’t matter). I see the correct spin of about 5500, the other numbers look good as well. It’s just the swing speed (and like I said, the ball speed also seems very low).

going to test the IOS version and see if it changes. Very well could be PC/software related maybe

You could always add a PRGR to your setup just for clubhead speed.

Incidentally I'll have one to sell when I receive my HMT tomorrow

Just buy a swing speed radar or yupiteru or whatever. Or use skytrak and focus on ball speed only.

Yeah, I have one of these: https://www.amazon.com/Sports-Sensor...7615341&sr=8-5 and it works fine. I set it up next to my Skytrak. The Skytrak's calculated swing speed is usually not close to what the radar unit shows; but I'm sure a big part of that is caused by my not consistently striking the ball in the center/sweetspot of the club face (i.e. what Sktyrak's calculation is assuming).
