I just got a chance to hit balls on the updated app. I like others was having issue with too much distance on my mid/long irons. In 1.8 my 7 iron was going on average around 200yds, and with the new update it is back down to around 175yrds. With all of the irons I tried my distances were much more in line with what I would expect to see. Roll out seemed much more realistic also.

Not a complaint, but an observation. I think the algorithm is actually pretty dead on...what I've found is that ball speed is lower than any other data I've seen on TM, FS, or GC2. In fact, my driver ball speed consistently measured 142-144 mph a couple weeks ago at a Trackman that I use (high was actually 147). I'm stuck in the mid 130's on my ST. Could be some other factors, but I'd have to say I see a consistent 5% reduction in ball speed throughout the bag. I do not think that's an issue per se, but it does impact how I thought I would use the unit: club gapping and short game tuning, along with some shaft testing.
So, it's a little concerning, but perhaps with more use (I'm about to post some data in another thread), things will shake out a bit.

This was done for the same shot, at the same time, correct? Very similar to the difference between my 7 iron outdoor yardage (165) and ST (150). Basically one club difference.
I had my ST at the outdoor range, in direct mode (now having my first sync issue, btw) yesterday and will confirm the accuracy of the ball trajectory. I was really impressed with how closely (once aligned accurately) the ball flight was calculated and displayed. 1-2 weird readings over 70 balls...very happy to see that.
One other thing, and I can't really say I expected it, my ST rendering was actually much faster...as the ball reached its apex, ST started drawing the ball flight. This was at least two seconds faster than in my garage.

Agolfman, Welcome to my world of no syncing! As someone who has never been able to sync successfully, I am envious of those who have ever been able to sync! Direct Mode seems to not only prevent Session History from displaying after ending any session, but also never syncs (perhaps because it never saves the shot data?)!

I use flightscope trajectory optimizer to double check all distances. I play nothing but individual tournament golf and spent the winter bending lofts to get yardage from clubs that I wanted for my gapping. I have only played a few rounds this spring and I have never been pin high so much in my life. The new update for distances is very close for me. I also play in the Midwest and set my elevation to 600' and 80* temperature for all shots. I have made a list that's next to my hitting bay that I have what ball speed, spin, and launch angle I'm looking for out of each club to get the distance I'm wanting. Whenever I hit the numbers i'm wanting the skytrak distance is always within 1-2 yards of where it should be. And hitting range balls is very hard to judge the distance. They spin way less than a premium ball and can't get any consistently.

Today's missed sync now makes it two days in a row. I think that the Direct mode session really screwed me up. Looking on the bright side, I achieved my lowest driver ball speed average to date....somewhat glad that's not being sync'ed over. I'm glad to hear that keithpbz isn't getting good feedback, proves it can happen. I don't doubt this at all...am starting to really be concerned about ball speed capture, at least on my unit.Originally posted by TripAces View PostAgolfman, Welcome to my world of no syncing! I have had to completely uninstall and reinstall twice in the last two weeks, most recently to get the 1.8.5 App Store update, and still no syncing, so it isn't a panacea. Most likely, if it isn't syncing or displaying any usable saved Session History on the iPad, there isn't any data there to sync anyway. Give it a try. Nothing to lose! ;-)

Thanks guys for the feedback. Glad to hear the distances are working out well. I'll try to touch on some other stuff in here:
Ball Speeds - Nothing has changed in our system regarding ball speed since we launched. Our ball speed, tested alongside (simultaneously) Trackman was actually our most accurate measurement - coming in at 99.X% match with Trackman.
Driver distances - There has also been no change to distances with drivers since our launch. The fixes we put in place are isolated to back spins that don't get anywhere near what a driver can produce.
Syncing - This is what I'm working on now. We are making great progress on this update. I won't give you a date, but we are 75% of the way through. In the meantime, I'm going to start a separate thread on this to gather some info.

Seth, on distances, I have noticed (or I think I have noticed) that for shots with fade spin that there hasn't been a lot of difference between the previous version and 1.85. I also never noted the "extra" distance on the previous version unless I had draw/hook spin. My distances on mid-irons came up short in the prior and current versions when there is a fade spin. Since I can play outside now I have confirmed I haven't lost that yardage. I will say that my backspins are pretty high for the given club I am using. It could have something to do with getting more spin off of the indoor mat, but I have been suspecting all along that there is a distance "penalty" in the algorithm for fade spin. Any of this make sense to you? Overall I have been very happy with the product and the app and it has helped me to get a quick start this spring. Thanks.
