  • SkyTrak PC & Android software

    Hi guys,

Just wondering if anyone has heard anything about a release coming out for Android or PC (Not a apple user). Last I saw, Skytrak has stated the were not quite yet ready for announce anything yet. But that was back in February. Any new info available since?

    Thanks

I've only been a member here for a couple weeks, but it became apparent very quickly reading through older threads that next week means next month and tomorrow means next week.

Yea I don't know how, it was ready to be released on Friday. Turns into waiting all weekend and Monday. If it was ready on Friday, why is it not out now.

        • #52
Guys, what we essentially spent all weekend on in the software ended up being a hardware issue (damaged). I pulled Friday's release because we weren't privy to that information at the time. But we still needed to make sure that if this ever occurred in the field that it wouldn't leave you stranded. I take exception to the fact that I gave up much of my weekend and out of town commitments to do what I could to work it out, but it just didn't fall into place. To assume that we are giving it any less than 100% is incorrect. Sometimes things pop up that were not expected, and it's my responsibility to make sure that doesn't happen in the field, regardless of how bad you want it. That's the really hard part.

Sounds like the right call. Seth - sorry for the personal sacrifices. Releases can suck. I'd buy you a beer if I could.

We definitely appreciate all your hard work, and I am content waiting until things are right. I'm busy enough as it is.

As a business owner myself, I would personally, strongly suggest to stop providing soft-dates, because people will ALWAYS expect something on that date, and be disappointed when it doesn't happen.

Whether it's fair or not, they will feel lied to, regardless of the facts.

I think if this is indeed a firmware upgrade coming too as I suspect I think we can all agree that no one wants a bricked unit, there are plenty of people moaning about being misinformed about $100, imagine the outrage if you ended up with a bricked Skytrak and you were told, well we did warn you but you wanted it so much we thought you should try it and see what happens, sorry.

Just ignore the moaners Seth, there was no PC app when they bought it, and if there never was one then they cant moan as the only promise of one has come because this forum is so active. If you had chose to never be on here there would be little to no information available and everyone would still be waiting for official announcements from ST, which are few and far between, and as far as I have seen there is no mention of a PC app anyway on the official site, no mention of TGC anywhere on the official site, yet people have bought it anyway based on whats on here and the hope of things to come. The joys of being an early adopter Im afraid.

I personally dont think you owe anyone anything, just make it the best it can be, as you already are doing.

I agree with what you're saying,. SkyTrak technically owes people nothing, but it's also PR 101 not to give your users soft-release dates if you can't keep them. When you tell someone something is probably coming at a certain time, they will always be upset when that expectation is not met.

I would be more sympathetic if it were a one-time thing, but the forum is full of posts that give estimates that have come and gone on all kinds of releases and updates, so it's easy to see why people get upset.

If they don't want that to happen, they need to under promise and over deliver, not vice versa.

Personally, I'm happy to see updates even if they are wrong, because I've done development in the past, and as long as the developer THINKS it's getting close, it isn't that far away, even if it's not the date they expect.

That's why I've referenced before that I hate giving dates, because just like this, one little hiccup and it throws it for a week. I try to accommodate when I can though. That said, this is a huge release, so I'm probably a little more paranoid than usual.

As a person who works in corporate tech, I agree completely with @haysuess

In my opinion, as a forum newbie, it is very disappointing to go back and read thread after thread of failed delivery dates - and I'm sure Guest feels even worse. But you have to realize that you can't win by trying to provide status updates in this business. I know the temptation to share exciting developments but then I'm reminded of a quote when it comes to over-promising, under-delivering and the resulting hit to your reputation: It always comes back to stupid or liar. Always.

I'm not trying to be negative Guest. I'm just trying to articulate that most users enjoy your product enough to spend thousands of dollars to purchase it as it exists. So when you're ready to provide more we'll accept it with open arms. Therefore please realize that you have nothing to gain and more to lose by these promises, regardless of your well-intentions.

So keep up the great work. We all know you're working hard on it - just check back in when it's 100% ready.

Bah, I'm almost always joking to an extent. I fully believe things are being worked on and things will be released soon, but sometimes I just feel like being pessimistic in hopes that I'm dead wrong. *Throws Money at SkyTrak* Prove us wrong

I think the vast majority of "complaints" on here are just people keeping the conversation going, when the alternative is to sit quietly and wait. We are all excited for the update, so when things don't go as planned, we get grumpy, and when things go well, we are all praise. It's just the way it goes.

            • #57
And that is where I have to make the call of dealing with a little grumpy with a delay vs a lot grumpy if something blows up Testing very well right now though.

Just saw a comment on another forum that they are still at work on this and don't have an official eta. Wonder if that means the update hasn't been submitted to apple either then.

I thought via the post above was a hardware not software issue preventing release compared to what Cory at par2pro has posted on ottawa
