Tinker a bit to make sure the unit is level. Perhaps take it to a range with mats. Sometimes swinging indoors can change your swing speed etc. Make sure you have new balls. Make sure its the latest firmware.

How do I ensure latest firmware?

Everyone has the latest firmware. Maybe he meant software. Should be v1.8.6.

Since I had previously posted along the same vein, I'll provide a brief update on my data observations. I think there may be an explanation to some of the data discrepancies, but only ST would know...my hypothesis is simply that there is a wider than expected margin of error in some of the ST units. This is reflected in slightly lower ball speeds being measured. Perhaps that's due to some unique environment condition or otherwise, but it could be what some of us are experiencing.

I begrudgingly returned my ST unit and found a very good deal on a used FS X2 and pulled the trigger. I say begrudgingly because I really do still like the product and its strategy. Credit for being a disruptor here in an industry where that is long overdue. I think there's room for both units in the marketplace, and I'll even reconsider this decision down the road, if it makes sense....there's just so many great aspects of ST to still be realized, that it might make sense to return to the fold.

After some early testing on the FS , I'll note some data, not to start a debate, but simply to illustrate what I, a user, has experienced after close to 1,000 recorded ST shots and a smaller number on my FS.

PW Data (sample of 68 shots, documented in Excel copied from each session):
ST average ball speed 91.0 mph
FS average ball speed 94.4 mph

ST average distance (total) 116.9 yds
FS average distance (total) 126.5 yds

On course yardage played 125 yds

6 iron Data (sample of 38 shots)
ST average ball speed 105.8 mph
FS average ball speed 113.4 mph

ST average distance (total) 154.8 yds
FS average distance (total) 167.1 yds

On course yardage played 170 yds

My earlier point was that I was seeing a little more than 1 club difference in STon course against my expectations and experience. I still think its within the MoE, as discussed fully previously, and I simply am presenting my data, not calling one better than the other. I do expect accuracy to be as tight as possible for the investment made for these devices and I think I've found what I need. Time will tell....

That is an insane difference in ball speeds! Definitely the difference in distances. Not that ball speeds have ever been touched, but can I ask which app version you recorded this data on?

Finally, our units are tested 2 at a time with a controlled shot, so it would be very easy to tell if one is reading incorrectly. We look at all the data parameters during QA, and I don't see how we could possibly read ball speed that differently from FS.

Would have loved to let you try a different unit just to be sure. I'm very anxious to see the results of this original poster.

Agolfman, when you did your compassion between FS and ST were both units set up side by side, if not were they done on the same day ? Just curious. I have similar ball speed differences as you stated but only with Skytrak. Like I said in my previous post after using a different LM on the same day and I chalked the issue up to me being the problem. Sometimes when I hit balls I will see a 10mph increase in ball speed from the time I start to the time I finish. I certainly wanted to blame the ST for the inconsistency's, my ball speed was way off last night and I kept saying the unit is not working right but I really don't think that is the case. I do find the new update a little buggy and ST seems to disconnect from my ipad more often and sometimes it freezes for no reason and I use the direct mode. Some people are getting some very strange results.

                My apologies. I meant software.

srb165 Keep us updated with that new SkyTrak you get, and if the readings are different. You may need to come over and test mine too, since it sounds like you are more consistant than me! I live in Goldsboro

All my ST data came from version 1.8.5, which came out almost exactly at the same time I purchased my unit. I'm sure you could recover that unit from those that processed the return and do some testing on it. Would also be willing to do more testing of it, if you wish to send it back to me.

As to swing variances, sure that could play a part, but my ball speed differences (and I had posted this info in the other ST thread that was closed) were consistently 5 mph slower across all clubs...some more actually. If I really went after a shot, I could approach my proper distances, but it was a rare occurrence. I don't think this is a substantial issue for those with primary use intended to be as a Sim. But along the lines of identifying weaknesses, distance control, and the like, it really helps to see the distances you are playing on the course.

One last question asked: whether or not I did a side by side. Unfortunately not...there was a gap of two weeks between having the units and I just didn't have that opportunity. All i have is my past club fitting data (done on a FS), half dozen TM sessions this winter, and 30+ years seeing/playing the yardages on the course I'm used to. All are dead on the numbers I have gotten on FS over the past 48 hours.

I have a hard time believing that the ST is that sensitive to used golf balls. This means it can't be used on any driving range and if you're using it at home you'll need to constantly change balls. Doesn't make sense.

I think by sensitive he meant that it actually reads what the ball is doing. As in, don't try to dial in a new driver using range balls because the ball speeds will be lower and back spins will be way higher than the ball you play on the course.

Let's see what happens with the unit for the OP. Unfortunately we've only been able to perform robot testing with Trackman and our ball speeds were only a tenth of a percentage point off, but I can't imagine that FS would be that much higher...really strange.

I'll be posting a video soon to show side by side skytrak ball path/results with actual ball path, instead of actually comparing SkyTrak with other devices, I would rather know what the REAL path is, SkyTrak can be off, but so can Trackman, and so can GC2...if the wind starts blowing when you hit the ball it can affect your shot a couple inches to yards a simulator/monitor can only do so much
