  • Very accurate but the iPad app has issues ...

There is no doubt that ST (atleast mine) is accurate, except it estimates backspin ~11000 when using PW, am not sure if this is accurate resulting total distance less than carry- I tried facing the ball logo toward the camera but that didn't work. I have not noticed this kind of backspin in range or course from my shots.

However, my real problem is with the iPad app. I practice away from home in a gym where there is no WiFi, so my obvious choice is the direct wifi mode, which I have no issues in connecting. But I am losing all my practice data in a snap just because I could not login into my online account. Here is the sequence of events that is leading to the loss of data:

    1. The app asks me to login, but I say "I'll skip" as I do not have an internet connection
    2. The app happily allows me to collect data in practice mode
    3. After 2 hrs of swing, sweat and back ache, when I say "Exit session", boom, all the data worth 2 hrs are lost now !!, I could find nowhere
    4. Why the app is not saving the data locally if an online account is not available? Am I missing something?
    5. Also, the sync status on top frequently says "Waiting to sync" but mostly says "Did not sync" even if an active internet connection is available.

    Thanks
    Mike

I use direct connect all the time. I usually do a 10 shot session with each club. I then take a screenshot of session to save data in my photos. Then start a new session. Make sure if you do that to change the club your using to tell what swings go to what club. In my photos I have folders for each club, I can swipe thru photos from different sessions to see consistency with club from different sessions on different days. You can also highlight the swings from each session so if you can remember which shots were good shots or bad ones. Since we can't delete shots from history yet.

      Thanks Keith, for the response.

Snapshots are certainly an option but not the best option. With snapshots we lose the luxury of comparing different shots ( top view , side view etc), unless we take snapshots for these comparisons as well, right before losing the data. I strongly believe the app dev folks could do more about this issue. To start with at least the session data must be secured no matter account is logged in or not, before adding other bells and whistles . This will help us to compare and crunch the collected data according to the need, than staring at a snapshot.

        Mike,

Here's the issue. You still need to log into the app! That log in tells the app "Ok, Mike is using it now. Make sure all these shots gets saved in Mike's database so that whenever he is back online, that data will sync to his SkyGolf360 account". That's why we have the log in...it's not because you need to be online, it's to make sure the shot data gets saved to the right place locally when different users use the system. If it's just you, then just make sure you check that box that says 'remember me' so it always stays logged in. Whether or not you have an internet connection is irrelevant.

          Thanks SkyTrak for the response.

Agree, thats what ideally I would expect the app to work. However the problem is the above quoted statement wouldn't work for me. That is, if I disconnect the internet and try to login, the app would not allow me to login and the only option I am left with is to skip the login procedure. In other words, the login procedure in the app is not "local", one needs an active internet connection to login to the app, which is my fundamental problem with the app. You may try this if you have an iPad with ST in it and please correct me if I am wrong.

Hey SkyTrak, so far I used my email ID as the username. While doing so, the app does not "remember" my account details, however when I used my "username" instead of email ID, the app showed expected behavior for a while, but when I played by disconnecting the internet, close (swiping upwards) and reopen the app for few times. Then again the app asks for UN/PWD and if I dont have an active connection then it says: U/N and PWD were invalid. I still think the login procedure is not purely local and has some tech glitch.

Also, I always have a "Data not synced" status on top.

Interesting...let me look into this. Thanks guys. I have been unable to reproduce this with my account. Although my username is the same as my email address. I'll dig into it.

Thanks. Also in one of the above posts Keith mentioned he uses screenshots as a work around, perhaps this issue is specific to certain devices, please keep us posted.

Also any advice on the "Data not synced" issue? Although the app frequently says "Waiting to sync" but ends up displaying "data not synced", even with active internet connection.

Mike, can you confirm you are on v1.8.6? (you can view the version in the profile - upper right of the dashboard) If you sign into your skygolf360 account online, do you see any SkyTrak data?

Hey Mike - have you tried restarting the iPad? Most people just tend to leave these things on. It may just need a reboot to get things working correctly.

SkyTrak_Seth Yes, I am on 1.8.6 and I am using an iPad Air 2. I have about 20+ swings using a Lob Wedge on my iPad under my account, but my skygolf360 account shows just one swing using a LW.

DeaconBlooze I tried restarting the iPad but still having the random logout events.
