Question on Newtork mode and Drivers

    Hi -
I am a long time lurker here, and based on the reviews here, purchased a SkyTrak. We are very happy with the system. The unit is primarily used by my 9 and 11 year old boys while they are at the outdoor driving range to "Gap" their clubs. They play in a lot of tournaments, and as you would imagine, the distances they hit each club changes frequently. Our initial observations are as follows:

    - The system seems accurate
    - I can't tell much (if any) of a difference when using a range ball versus a branded ball. We have bags of "found" balls that we have used with the unit and there does not seem to be much of a difference.
    - The distance seems off with the driver. My Son's drives have been measured consistently in the 207 to 217 yard range using Track Man, the Foresight monitors at the local Golfsmith, and through on course observation. With the SkyTrak he consistently registers in the 180 to 190 range. Any thought on the cause of this?

Here my biggest problem that I am hoping to solve. Prior to the 1.8.6 release, I was able to connect through my home network through Network mode. Once I did the upgrade, I have not been able to use Network mode. I have reinstalled the app several times to no avail. Moreover, I cannot even find a way to pull up the screen that allows you to enter your SSID and password. If someone could tell me how to get that screen to come up, I am betting I could troubleshoot the issue. Can someone tell me how to do this?

Thanks in advance for any assistance.

Same issues with my driver. I've hit drives in the 195-210 range after warming up and this never happens. I'm about a 4 handicap and those distances are what I get with my hybrid, which my skytrak accurately shows. I've also noticed if you're hitting a 60 degree wedge, sometimes it'll give me about 160 yards in distance. This has only happened a few times so it's no big deal. Considering all of my other clubs show just about exactly what happens on the course I'm extremely happy with the unit.

Just curious, where are you putting the tee in relation to the laser? laser at the base of the tee? Also, how high do you tee it? I remember seeing something on skytrak's facebook page about a long driver that tees it 4+ inches, and they had to move the unit to compensate for it.

So I've been playing around with the settings and I'm getting much better results. The settings at 500ft and 50% humidity were not the conditions that I play in. I've adjusted these to 1000 ft and 80% humidity and these are giving me distances I see on the course (225-230 on mishits and 240-255 depending on how good of a swing I put on a well struck ball, Sometimes a ball or 2 in that 260 range during a session)Adjusting this created distances that make a whole lot more sense so I feel like I'm getting a reading on what I'm doing on the course.

          Hi,
We put the base of the tee on the red dot and probably tee it up about 2/34 inches. Is there a best practice on where to place the base of the tee?

I had the same issue, but when I leveled the unit with the turf I was using ST started giving accurate results. Watch out for the launch angle and see if it make sense. For example I use 10.5 deg loft, initially I was getting a launch angle of around 5 deg even for the shots I felt is from the middle of the club, which in my opinion did not make sense. After leveling the unit I got launch angle around 10 degrees that gave distances I am observing at ranges. Hope this helps.

            Mike

Why don't you tried this (http://golfsimulatorforum.com/forum/...-results/page2)

"If you are in network mode, you can go ahead and connect in the app, then choose "Direct Mode". This will reset the device and you can find it in the Wi-Fi stack again. If for some reason you cannot get it to connect in the software, then you'll need to hard-reset the unit. Stick a paperclip in the center of the brass insert on the bottom of the unit and hold for 10 seconds. You will see all 3 lights turn yellow - that indicates that the unit has been reset. "

You shouldn't need to reset the unit. If you just go into the app and click on the device connections, you should then click on network mode. That will first walk you through direct connecting (so you can program the unit with the network credentials) and then it will take you to the screen you are talking about where you enter those network credentials. We haven't seen any issues with network mode in v1.8.6, in fact the opposite - it was designed to fix any of those issues. One thing to watch out for is that after you enter those credentials and program the unit, then the iPad automatically connects back to your network ---> Make sure it is the same network that you programmed to the unit! Unfortunately the iPad is weird about that sometimes.

Not really sure on the driver distances. Was he using Trackman outdoors? SkyTrak indoors? I only ask because it happens so often that people don't swing the same indoors, and they don't even realize it.

                  Seth,
Thanks. I will try a few more things to try and get the network mode to work. One problem is even getting to the screen that allows me to enter network credentials. I go to the Network Connection part of the App and it just tries to connect (using previously entered credentials I assume).

WRT my son, we were using the Trackman outdoors at the same range where we were using the SkyTrak and using the same ball. He also received similar numbers to Trakman using the Bridgestone ball fitting. The GC2 was indoors at a local Golfsmith. The GC2 I felt was a little high and registered him between 200 and 230. I will say that for the irons (especially the 8 iron and up) the SkyTrak distances seem to be dead on.

                  -John

So when you click 'network mode' and get to that first screen, it should ask you to connect directly to the unit first - are you doing that?

Before you even open the app, what's happening with the lights on the front of the unit? Are they (bottom to top) green/red/red or green/yellow/red?

                      Seth,
Lights are top to bottom RRG. By now, I have reset the unit several times, reinstalled the app at least 15 times and tried every possible combination to get this to work. What remains problematic is I can never seem to get to the screen where I enter my SSID. Is there a help desk where I can talk to someone live?

                        All,
Just to post an update and close this one out. Seth was able to get me up and running. I was missing a step in how I was trying to get connected.
                        Thanks for all your help.
