  • Driver setup on Skytrak

this may have been covered somewhere but I can find it. When setting up for a driver, does the red laser dot need to be pointed at the ground or pointed at the ball at Tee height, and does the unit need to be the same height as the ball on the Tee. Also I get different results using a rubber tee vs. a real tee.

You put the ball on the red dot to hit an iron. You put the tee on the red dot to hit a driver. Are you using a white rubber tee that is just sitting on top of the mat? If so, I could see that possibly flying up into the image and confusing the software.

I am using a rubber tee on the mat and having a launch degree of 0. Do you think the tee could be the problem?

I went on live chat support on the skytrak site and was told that the red dot should be on top of the tee. Was he wrong?

i am using real tees in my mat, may try using colored tees. does the height of the Unit in relation to the mat matter.

Won't pick up shots with my white headed SLDR, I guess I need to take a sharpie to it.

It's possible depending on your swing speed that you may need to move your tee position back (like in the direction of back in your stance) by about 2 inches. Just enough to keep that club head out of the picture if you swing fast.

The only time I've ever seen tee height be an issue was with an LDA guy that teed the ball insanely high. Then we had to put raise the unit up about 1/2". However, we kept the distance between the ball and the unit the same (ie as you lift up the unit, the red dot moves farther away)

I have a white SLDR and tee height is 2". The tee is a fixed version that looks like an orange plastic tube.
The unit never missed to pick up a shot that I can remember and I have done a few 100. Swing speed is between 105 - 110 MPH.
I also have a Nike Covert. That one is worse from a camera point of view since the metalic coating actually reflects the light even better than the white head SLDR.
          No problem there either.

not having any real problems. though was wondering If the Skytrak was placed the same height as a tee'ed up ball wouldn't this increase the field of view. and therefore give a more accurate reading.

Yes but that would only be useful incase you have a very high vertical launch angle on your drives.
Or the tee is very tall. If not, the accuracy is the same. E.g. It works or does not. The accuracy should not be affected. That obviously assumes that the vision algorithm works the way I would have done it and that the lens is properly calibrated and I have no idea if that is the case.

I have noticed it will not pick up very high launch angles, i.e. 64deg wedge.

I just received my skytrak and I am seeing low readings on driver and 3 wood. I hit a consistent 280 driver and I can only get 253 on skyttrak if I swing as hard as I can, ball speed never above 140 slight push draw.

All these ones that aren't getting the distances they used too do you have your numbers from other sessions on launch monitors to compare to skytrak numbers? Whenever I would have a trackman session they would email me all the shot info for each club. My ball speeds were higher on trackman then on my skytrak but I've changed my swing since then. I used to hit down between 6-9 degrees even with driver and really compress ball but launched around 7-8 degrees and get low 160's ball speeds. I swing much more level now and get 156-159 ball speeds but launching closer to 12 degrees with exact same club. And carry distance is very similar with both swings. I carry the ball right around 255-260 yards. To get 280 yards of carry you'd be in the 170 mph ball speed range with ideal launch angle and spin numbers. And probably 115-118 swing speed.

I am swinging as fast as I can to get this. Hitting the sweet spot. I moved the ball back an inch from the red dot which seemed to help a little.
I carry my 3 wood 245 on the course
                        Something isn't right

Are your course yardage estimated by scorecard yards or with a laser, or gps system. Make sure all your settings are adjusted to where you play. I'm in St. Louis so my skytrak settings are always 600' and 70% humidity, and 80 degrees. Also make sure it's perfectly level, a few degrees off can make a big difference in carry distances. Ball speeds are very accurate with it. And use the same balls that you play with on the course. Don't use cheap balls with your skytrak.
