Unit Problem - only registering shots half the time

Has anyone else had trouble with the skytrak not picking up shots? I hit what feels to be perfect shots, and it doesn't register anything. This is starting to happen about 50% of the time now. The first few days it seemed to work flawlessly. Also today I had trouble getting the Skytrak to even show the red dot. A few times I got 3 red lights which I have never seen before.

Could this possibly be a defect with the unit? If so, how long of a warranty do these things have? I've hit less than 400 balls.

Edit: After reading about the lights, I'm hoping the 3 red was just telling me I need to charge the unit. Although it didn't show the red lights right when I powered on. It waited until I logged in to the app and then clicked range.

looks like you just need to charge the unit. nothing wrong with it, what you are describing is usually what hapapens when it's running out of juice.

Well I have tested it again today, and I am coming across the same problem. I hit what feels to be a pretty good hit, and it doesn't pick it up. I've tried uninstalling the app, direct mode, network mode, new ball, but it only works about half the time. 7 iron goes about 175-180 when it does read it.

SkyTrak_Seth What is the warranty on these things without buying the extended warranty?

Were you indoors or outside? Not very tolerant of direct sun.

mhage I was in the garage. Same lighting that I was using every time testing the unit.

Not having much luck with the customer service number on the skytrak site. Called Monday morning and they told me to call back when I was beside the skytrak. Called later that day and was put on hold for a long time while she asked someone about my issue. Tried to tell me it was my iPad not being compatible , but it's an iPad air. It's the unit not registering the shots. She then said a skytrak person would call me Tuesday evening to troubleshoot before sending the unit in, but I never got that call. They seemed to not want me returning the unit.

Seems to work fine with wedges and low irons, but when I get up to mid irons it only picks up about every other shot. One time today it didn't register 4 in a row with my 5 iron.

Any tips?

Yeah I'll test that tomorrow. The thing that makes me think it's the unit is that all 3 lights just stay green after the shot, rather than the top light being red and then sending the shot to the iPad

Tested today with another compatible iPad. Same results. Seems like the longer the iron, the less it picks up the ball. Wedges get almost all shots. 7 iron now is getting about 2 out of 10. Same setup as always. Leveled unit in my garage. New balls. I think I'm going to have to return this thing

I would bet it's a lighting issue, or the screen over the cameras is dirty.

What type of lighting is recommended? I'm in the garage. Plenty of light. I've tested it outside close to sunset in the backyard with pitch shots and it picked up nearly all of them.

Today I hit about 20+ 4 irons and it registered 2 of them. I switched to a gap wedge and it was picking up a lot more of them. I guess I'll get plenty of practice in with the wedges.

With cameras if the background is to dark and 1 area is bright, the camera evaluated the average and can blow out the bight area (not saying this is your problem), probably best to have consistent lighting. Not sure how the skytrak camera works but why don't you try taking a photo with a point and shoot camera with flash and see how the picture turns out.

I don't think it's lighting. It sounds to me like you have the SkyTrak unit sitting too high. That's typically why it doesn't pick up long irons for people. Is it sitting on something? On the mat or off? See if you can lower it 1/4".

It's leveled with a piece of the mat that I am hitting off of. I guess I can try and put it on the flat ground, but then I'd be hitting above it.

Maybe try putting it on something that is just a touch lower than your mat, by 1/4"-1/2". Just experimenting here...

Back when I had a Vector Pro it was sensitive to what was behind the mat where the cameras were pointing. If the background was very light or in one case when I was wearing white pants it had a hard time picking up the ball with enough edge definition and would miss shots altogether. I have no idea if ths is your problem but apparently the Skytrac uses the same two ball picture method to analyze and compute the launch parameters.
