  • PC Sims on a tablet - Plan/Theory

Hi, Just wanted to pop in a build with skytrak i am trying.

    Background

I live in the UK, this usually means we dont have much room indoors (especially if you dont have a garage) to setup a sim. Also up in the north, we dont have the best weather, usually a fair bit of rain! So my only two options are:

    A) Build an outdoor sim room
    B) Have an outdoor sim with tablet/laptop and no projection

Option A is pretty damn expensive. Plus to even get something with the correct height, you either need to dig really far down OR get planning permission so its a no go for now.

Option B Seems the way to go. Only problem is - if i want to play anything like TGC 2019 i would have to get a laptop and take it outside. I already have a pretty beefy gaming PC so it seems a waste

    The Solution

My Idea is to make use of my gaming PC, but remotley Basically the PC would be running the sim games and i would use a tablet to stream what my pc is running via an application called moonlight. (https://moonlight-stream.org/). This is an open source app made with nvidia GPU's in mind. I can connect skytrack to my home network wirelessly and just have my tablet outside with a hitting cage and run anything i want that would otherwise be restricted simulation wise.

My kit arrives today, going to give it a test on my phone with one of the 30 day free trials for sim software (if anyone can recommend one - that would be great)

My question is: Has anyone attempted this before? what have your experiences been? OR do you think this is a decent idea haha

    Will update as i progress

The outdoor sim with out projection is definitely your cheaper option. That is what I do for now.

Your only issue may be the skytrak itself as it doesn’t work very well in sunlight due to using infrared.

Never used moonlight so I can’t comment on that.

I bought a new gaming laptop to use tgc to use outdoors even though I own a pretty decent gaming pc. Couldn’t be bothered to take it in and out every time I wanted to play and wanted something I could easily move in case of rain.

Your other sim option is e6 as it can be run through a iPad.

This will only work if you have an NVIDIA gfx card after the 10/20 series. If anyone needs more info on this i can add a full step by step guide, wanted to see if there is any interest before i wrote one.

I have my sim inside my work warehouse but I wanted to be able to run AC and keep the dust down. I originally planned to build a structure but decided on another path and that is a fully enclosed "even tent" like this one https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01GCIYWTS...roduct_details. It can be setup and taken down within a few hours. Its not the nicest looking thing. But it would keep you dry and give you room to swing. The cross bars are 10' high so plenty of swing room. The peak is a lot higher close to 15' You could find one to the size you need for your space. If you just wanted to do no projector and hit into a net you could get a 10x10 as the entire side opens and just hit out into a net keeping your laptop and you dry.

Hello Bady - If you are using SkyTrak outdoors, make sure the unit is not in direct sunlight. As stated above it may cause misreads. Make sure the unit is in a shady area!

I use my SkyTrak remotely in my garage using a Chromecast with Google TV dongle and Steamlink running of my gaming PC. You can connect a Bluetooth mouse and keyboard to the Google TV. I originally used an Nvidia Shield with Steam, but the extra upscaling of the Shield wasn't really necessary on the sim screen so I put the Shield on my living room TV and put the Chromecast in the sim projector. You can also run Steamlink on an iPad with a Bluetooth keyboard/mouse which would likely be cheaper than the laptop option.
