Initial Impressions

So I got my SkyTrak yesterday. I have had two hit sessions so far and here are my initial impressions.

Sync: My data sync'd and then stopped syncing. Half of one session was uploaded. I deleted the app and reinstalled it today and it supposedly is syncing again but I will know after the next session.

Shot Registration: Most of the shots register but every now and then the device just seems to stop working with the app. The shot doesn't register, the red light doesn't go away and this is general fixed by quitting the app and or restarting the device. Oddly enough it seems the better I hit the ball the more chance it has of being missed. The opposite of that is also true to where I hit it like crap and I'm glad it doesn't register it!

Shot Tracking: It seems to me that it's pretty close to what I think the ball will do based on how I'm hitting it into the net. One of these days I'll take it to the range and confirm. I also have one my buddies who is a golf pro coming over to test it out as I'm sure he hits a hell of a lot more consistently than I do. I modified the altitude on a whim (from default to 800) because it seemed my shots were registering a lot less distance and carry. I checked after and my actual altitude is 1083 so we'll see if I need to adjust it again or not.

Device Protection: So far I have not come close to hitting the device and as others have said it would have to be a pretty bad shot for you to come close to hitting it. I am still going to get with a buddy and put a case of some sort around it since I want to allow my kids and friends to hit on their device.

I'll keep updating this thread as I get more hands on experience. So far the biggest annoyance has been the shots that don't register and having to restart the process.

Overall I have the same impressions and frustrations with the every now and then lock up. (I have had it for about two months now)

So I did another session today. Looks like Sync isn't going to work. It goes from "Waiting to sync" to "data not synced" so that kinda sucks. I'll leave it going to see if it ever syncs.

As far as the hits not registering, I tried a couple of things today. I made sure my mat and skytrak were leveled with each other. Then I placed the ball just behind (up to a ball length) the red dot and it did seems to do a much better job of registering shots. I read that little trick in one of the other thread where a guy was having problems due to color of his shafts. I'm not sure what impact this has on the accuracy of the readings but from what it stated in that other thread it shouldn't have been an issue.

I just bought the ST unit and I am thrilled with it. I am a singe digit handicap and live in New England. Typically I have buyers remorse for this kind of stuff but this product works exactly as advertised. I can't explain how accurate I believe this unit is. It's always a bit humbling seeing your actual carry distances versus what you think your distances are. I hit balls on the ST for a few days and then took those numbers to our club that has two Trackman units. The numbers were almost identical. I am really happy with the purchase.
The only thing that is a bit annoying(I know this has been discussed a lot on the forum) is the delay from hitting the ball to seeing it on the screen(Ipad). A few seconds does feel like a long delay. This is especially glaring when you come from Trackman, which is instantaneous. However, since the ST is about $20,000 less expansive than TM, I'm willing to deal with it for now. I just hope it gets figured out at some point.
