  • ST versus TM

At times we have the ability to hit on Trackman and so I decided to see if ST numbers would match TM. I decided to take my ST down and hit with it the same time as TM. I was not able to do a lot of indepth analysis.....but I will say this....the one number I care about the most....which is carry.....was never off by more than 2 yards of Trackman on over 60 shots. ST again proves to me it is worth the money. I will do more analysis as I have opportunity. Ball flights looked very similar. I am not sure I had both systems pointing at the exact same target, but it was very refreshing to know I can be confident in the numbers I have checked so far. This ST unit is solid people!!!!

I think the low spin numbers on your wedges is what's throwing the numbers off. Skytrak is using an algorithm to calculate flight and track man using doplar to actually track the flight. Maybe they need to change the algorithm for high launching low spinning shots. I wonder if inside with premium balls if the numbers were be so different. From 7 iron thru driver they look similar. I've tried a lot of different balls and have noticed that spin rates are close to the same between balls for 7 iron and longer clubs but 8 iron and shorter I lose a lot of spin when not using a premium ball.

I don't think it's as easy as that. If you look at the hybrid, 9 iron and 58 degree wedge numbers. You will see a significant difference in accuracy.
The reason those 3 are interesting is that they where taken without moving the Skytrak. Since the TM is a fixed installation we know that the TM to ST alignment is the same.
100% aligned or not, is not important. What is important is that the alignment error should stay the same.
The important point for me was to see what the actual accuracy is for each club in different conditions and take that in to account when I practice.
I would be surprised if GC2 is much better. I will be happy to test it if somebody can lend me one
So in summary, ST is the best and most affordable LM around that is good enough. But as with all the other tools you need to know what it can and can't do.

Well said davray666. Bang for the buck, ST is the best out there. I've hit both GC2's and obviously own a ST. I met with the foresight rep awhile when I was looking at the GC2. Its a nice piece of equipment, but I agree, the numbers won't vary much between the 2 devices. I was done with optishot after a winter, fun as a toy, but not much more than that.
