SkyTrak only works with cover/casing removed

For a while now I've been having an issue with my SkyTrak where it will seem to read shots, but not render anything in the app. When I take a shot, the top light turns red and laser cuts out for a couple of seconds, before returning to green light/laser on - but no shot would display in the app. This issue was occurring regardless of whether connected via network, direct or USB mode.

After a bit of back and forth with SkyTrak support and no luck, I decided to open the casing (rear plastic cover) of the unit (it's out of warranty) to see if there was anything visibly wrong with it. There were no visible issues, so I jiggled the connectors a bit and removed/inspected/replaced the WiFi module. I decided I'd test the unit before putting the casing back on to see if moving the connectors had helped - it worked flawlessly, reading and rendering every shot.

Great, so I'm thinking now that it's working again I'll put the plastic casing back on. Tested again it with the case back on, same issue as before. I remove the casing again, and the unit works. I put the casing back on, it doesn't.

So now the unit works perfectly fine, but only when it's in a semi assembled state with the insides exposed

Does anyone have any idea what the issue might be? Seems like an issue with the WiFi module - as though the casing is either pressing against the WiFi connector (this is the only wiring that looks like it'd touch the case) and disrupting the connection between modules, or weakening the signal between the WiFi unit and the router. If it is the WiFi module though, would that also impact the USB connection? I'd love to be able to use the unit with its cover on!

Well, my first thought is that if the red laser is triggering/turning-off correctly, but no shots are registered, I would suspect the height/tilt of the SkyTrak unit may be off causing the cameras to not get adequate pictures. If this were a wifi problem, then the unit would be probably be disconnecting from your wifi (middle green light turning yellow/red.)

So, the first thing to experiment with is the unit's height/tilt and see if that has any affect. Also try moving the position of the ball one inch ahead of the red laser, try it one inch behind, one inch toward the unit, one inch further away from the unit, etc.

Also check if the no-reads happen with irons & drivers (i.e. shots off the mat and shots from a tee.) This could give clues if the unit's height/tilt is indeed the problem.

Also, make sure to use a clean golf ball, if the ball is too worn the SkyTrak might not be able to get decent photos.

If that doesn't do it, hopefully someone else will have some other ideas to try
