Skytrak on Wifi

I've had my Skytrak for a week now and so far I'm happy with the purchase, thanks mostly to the posts in this forum setting expectations and helping with initial setup.

I'm seeing a drastic drop off in performance with the Wi-Fi network mode. I like to have it in network mode so I can mirror my iPhone 6 to my Apple TV and see the shot in more detail. Does anyone have experience with making that network mode connection more reliable?

Here's what I know:

• In Direct Connect mode, it registers the shot majority of the time and renders the shot with 5 seconds (usually faster)
• I seem to be re-doing the network mode setup every couple of sessions
• When it renders a shot in network mode it takes 10+ seconds, sometimes over 30 seconds
• In network mode, the red dot takes a while to come up, and often disappears (I get one red light and two greens) before I get a chance to swing, then it's about 30-60 seconds until it comes back, if at all
• I just bought a new modem/router combo to replace the Comcast one and the issue hasn't gotten any better. I've got a NetGear AC1750 model with 450 mbps (up to 680).
• My modem/router is on the first level, and my Skytrak is in the basement almost directly beneath the router. I know I get good signal strength because I use the same wifi signal to stream HD movies.

Any ideas? I'd appreciate the help.

I have had a lot of problems with the WiFi in network mode and some in direct mode.
Bought a Linksys EA6900 and since then WiFi in network mode works fine.
But when I use the ST unit all that WiFi network has connected is the iPad and the ST unit.
The WiFi module and antenna in the ST unit are not very good. So even if you can stream HD movies using the Apple TV unit or some PC, that is not a benchmark for what the ST unit can do.
The fact that you can do iPhone mirroring and run the ST at all on the same WiFi network is pretty good vs. what I would have guessed.
The behavior you describe is what I had in the early days when the ST was hooked up to the default family router where everybody else connects for internet etc ...

I think that makes sense, I'm not very savvy when it comes to networking. I've got an extra Linksys E2500 (Wireless N, dual band 2.4GHz). Do you think that would work well if I created a new network just dedicated to the ST, iPhone and AppleTV? I could essentially sit it right next to my ST to range wouldn't be an issue. If that's a good option, could you point me in the right direction to some tutorials or terms I can google for setting up a second network?

You basically have 2 choices for that second router.
1. Use it as a stand alone WiFi router and only connect the ST + iPad. (the drawback is that iPad will not get any internet)

2. Connect the second router with an Ethernet cable to your default internet router. Turn of the secondary router DHCP and then connect via WiFi to the second router as usual.

In case 2 what will happen is that you will have access to everything since the default "head" router manages IP addr. and network in general. But the packet switch function in the second router keeps track of where the units are so the ST to iPad traffic will only pas thru the second router and never compete for bandwidth with the rest.
