Reading with interest the news on the new skytrak+ Watched all the youtube videos and on every one they say, its got a 40% wider hitting range. One article says "The new SkyTrak+ features a hitting area that is 40% wider than the previous model, allowing more versatility for golfers and their preferred launch monitor setup." in this case, whey do you still have to put the ball right on the red dot?

You don’t. You didn’t have to put it directly under the dot with the old one. (At least I don’t with mine.). It’s just natural to put it there. With the new one, apparently you have even more leeway with how far from the dot you can put it. But the OCD in me would still force me to put it on or near the dot anyway.
I wouldn’t assume it has to be on the dot simply because the reviewers put it there.

The setup manual is available in pdf form on one of the retailer websites and I read through it. That said you can place the ball on the red dot or within 3” behind it. I think the indicator is just a general guide for approximately where to place.
it also talks about for the most spin accuracy to place the ball logo facing the unit.
