  • Skytrak+

    Hi all

I got the plus and charged it for 6 hours out of the box using the plug and cable provided. It didn't get anywhere near 100%. I have been charging the unit now for a few hours and I can only get it to 40%. Also, if I leave it just powered by my PC it doesn't increase or even hold the charge, it drains when using. Anyone else experiencing this?

    Thanks
    Phil

Update - had to exchange the unit for a new one.

But….. new one arrived and it also doesn’t work, crashes after about 10 shots and only way to fix is to restart it - every 10 shots! Terrible unit that clearly has issues and should never have been released as clearly not ready.

    SkyTrak_Seth how can this happen?

Hey Duxbury - What device are you using to connect to SkyTrak+?

Interesting. Mine has been working just fine other than a quick fix for E6 connection. Charging has been good. It's been lasting about 5-6 hours on a full charge. Sounds like you have a bad unit.

Had the same problem (crash after 7 / 8 shots everytime, no matter the connection USB / Direct / Network). Unit cannot charge more than 60% after a full night. Support told me they will replace it. I have a second one who works perfectly. So I suppose some defective units (hardware).

So Skytrak are working on it. Not sure what the fix is. But I’m a bit fed up with it, 2 units not working. Lost 4 weeks of not really being able to use it, so a full month of subs wasted. seriously considering moving to a different launch monitor.

I purchased the Rapsodo MLM2Pro which I think is $695 USD (i Paid $995 CAD) and it is an absolutely incredible launch monitor! And I don't mean incredible for the price. I mean incredible for a launch monitor. I played on the GC Quad at my home club for 3 years and I am convinced that the MLM2Pro is providing the same accuracy of data. Highly recommend the Rapsodo MLM2Pro.

I hear you. Sounds like it needs a replacement. Unusual to get 2 bad units. Hopefully they improving their checks on the units before they are sold. Keep us posted.

Same exact thing happening to me…skytrak+ unit arrived a couple days ago, charged it overnight, showed about 60% charge (which I thought was odd), won’t increase its charge only drains. Very frustrating especially after purchasing simulator software.

I recently purchased a SkyTrack+ and have some big issues. Charged the unit for 6 hours as recommended turned unit on to setup on PC and only 52% battery. Used with no issues for a few hours with no issues. Left unit turned off and on charge yellow light present. Next use turned unit on and 10% battery. Let charge for a couple of hours and battery went up to 20%. Used the unit for around 20 shots and than it shut down and reset. Unit turned back on and reconnected. after 5 shots shut down again and did not turn back on. Only way to get it to turn back on was to remove charger cable and plug back in. Now when I plug charger in get green light than yellow light for 15 seconds than no lights. Have only used in network mode connection sequence for leads is no issue.

I leave mine plugged in as well. Don't have power/battery issues. However, I am having two issues which I can't get answers to. First issue is I can't connect to the network unless I do it manually. 2nd issue is I cant use E6, its saying that I am not authorized. E6 says its a Skytrak issue(at least they answer the phone) skytrak through chat doesn't know what's going on and its been a week and no word back from them. Anyone else having this problem? My entire ST history is extremely frustrating even though I see so many positive reviews. It would be nice to be able to talk to someone but they don't answer the phone, understaffed I guess.

Hi folks, I found this forum and thread while searching for how to fix my SkyTrak+ unit that I've had for about 9 months. The issue I was having was similar to what the original post was about and what some of the others in this thread have mentioned, so I figured I would describe what I was seeing and how I sorta "fixed" it in case it helps someone else out there.

On the whole, my experience with the SkyTrak+ has been really good. But I've twice had a problem where I charge the unit all night long, and then the next day when I go to turn it on, first I see one green light, then the green switches to blue for a while. Then the second yellow and third red comes on, and then it immediately shuts down (blinks all red and shuts off completely). At first I thought it just didn't charge, but when I would plug the device into the power, it would also just stop charging as if it had been charged fully already. I tried turning it on over and over again but no luck.

What I found is that if it gets into this state, here's what I did to fix:
                1. Turn on the device
                2. Light 1 will turn Green, then blue
                3. While light 1 is blue, hold down the power button for about 5 seconds or maybe 10 seconds

I think resetting it right at the moment when the first light is still Blue somehow catches it at the right point. The next time it went through the cycle and as it was searching for the network, it didn't shut down and I got to all Greens and everything worked. It was quite a relief honestly. Anyhow if you find yourself with this situation, give this a try and maybe it will work for you too.

FWIW, I can also never seem to get the device to charge to 100%. I think maybe in the 80s or so is the most I get. I don't usually need more than that but I hope the charging doesn't get too much worse over time. I'd like to keep this unit for a while because it really is good.

Ok, so this situation happened again where the device would not start up again after a night of charging, and my fix above didn't work. But I did get it working again. Here's what was going on and what I did this time to fix it:

After what I thought was a full charge, I was getting the 1 green light that switches to 1 blue light for 15 seconds, then it goes Green-Yellow-Red for a couple seconds, then it blinks all Red and shuts down. When it gets into this state, it will only fully start up if I leave the device plugged into the charging cable (which is plugged into the wall). By leaving it plugged in, the device was able to get all the way through the start up and connection cycle, and when I opened the app on my iPad, I could see that in fact the device battery was near 0%. So I guess for some reason the charge just didn't take the night before.

So I turned off the device and left it plugged in again another day. The next day, I unplugged the device and tried to power it up. But yet again, I got the same issue -- shut down after Green-Yellow-Red state for a couple seconds. So I plugged the device back into the charging cable again, and tried to power it up again, and this time it worked. I got through the full cycle and connected to the network, I opened the app and the battery charge showed close to 100% this time. So I went ahead and shut it down again, I unplugged the device now because I wanted to see if it would work properly without being plugged in. And it worked! I've used it unplugged now a couple of times since, and it still is working like a charm.

So after all this, I guess my conclusions are the following:
                  1. Sometimes when you plug it in to charge, you might think it's charging (even when the yellow light is on) but it's not. Not sure what to do about that.
                  2. It seems that my device needs to be plugged in the first time after a full charge in order to start up and get connected. No idea why, but at least I can do that.

                  Take it fwiw.

I have a 1 year old Skytrak+. I rarely use it b/c it doesn't work right. I've spent too much time calling/ texting ST/ GolfTek, but the things they tell me, don't work. So, stop using it, then get the desire to use it again & same thing. It just doesn't work right. Here is a list of what doesn't work on my ST+:

                1. It won't charge using the dual/ y cable that they sent with the unit.
                2. It won't connect using the dual/ y cable that they sent with the unit.
                3. When I connect using my WiFi, it will work for 20-30 shots, then it will lock up. That makes it impossible to play a round of golf. Its especially embarrassing when I have friends over that want to play a course. It locks up on TGC2019 & the Skytrak courses - both.
                4. The ONLY way to get it working, I have to power off the ST+ as well as the PC. Then after powering them both up, it always connects, but then locks up again, within 30 shots.
                * Here is what it does when it locks up: The red placement light won't go out. As you guys know, that light goes out when a shot is made. Today, it did go out & the check mark went purple for a brief few seconds, then the red light came back, but that light wouldn't go out after that one time. I then, power down the ST+, then it trys to connect, but won't - even after waiting 5 minutes. So, that is when I power the ST+ down, turn off the PC, then turn them both on & everything works again... for 30 shots or so.

What is frustrating is that I CAN'T finish a round. When I power both off, I lose where was when it locks up.

ST/ GolfTek tells me to make sure the software/ firmware is on the latest version. It is.
They tell me to make sure it is properly charged. It is.
The ask me about the type of balls I'm using. I use all the popular ones that is mentioned by others that have ST+ units.
They ask me about the lights.
They ask me about the PC.
*** This unit locks up. The only way to get it working is to power it down, along w/ the PC. Those are proof the issue isn't with lights or the balls. The 1st 30+ shots all pick up just fine. The PC I built was built way beyond the specs GolfTek states are requirements. The PC works great... It never locks up.

I can't connect using the cable they sent with this unit. Maybe that would help. I'm OK w/ keeping it connected & not wirelessly connecting.

Frurstrated ST+ user. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Sounds to me like you have a bad unit. I have the plus and haven't had any issues. I play a round of golf 4-5 times a week no problem. May want to send it back for a checkup. One thing have you tried direct connect to the unit? might try that as a last resort. Sometimes mine wouldn't connect through WIFI but connects direct.
