  • ST+ Network Mode disconnects ~20 minutes

    Hello,

I’ve had the new skytrak+ for a month and a half and still have not been able to get network mode working without eventually dropping/disconnecting. Usually around 15/20 minutes. The lights go back to red yellow and green while on the Skytrak range meaning it is looking for connection. Exiting the range and/or restarting the app usually doesn’t fix it either (rarely it does though). After rebooting the Skytrak itself it will pick it back up and work for another little while.

I tried splitting my wifi bands on the the XB7 Rogers router and connecting to just the 2.4 or just the 5 GHZ ..both didn’t change anything and the shot delay on 2.4 was pretty bad anyway.

I tested my network speeds in the garage where my sim is and they were usually pretty good, but i suspected maybe intermittently they weren’t, so I purchased a bunch of the Eero 6+ mesh and set 1 up halfway between the Gateway and the garage. My network in the garage is very reliable now, but my Skytrak is still not happy. Still have the same issue.

I saw some posts where people recommended switching to a different wifi channel, but i’m unclear if that is still a possible issue with the newer Skytrak. There are definitely a lot of other neighbor network around (small townhomes). I’ve never had any wifi issues with any other devices so i’m kind of skeptical this would be the issue. What is it about Skytrak that makes only it struggle with this. Unfortunately I am not able to test this either since neither the Eero gateway nor the XB7 from Rogers allow toying with the channel manually. Seems it’s pretty standard nowadays for the equipment to manage it automatically so i’m thinking this can’t be it otherwise Skytrak would be drowning in support tickets lol ??

Please let me know what you think, I am out of ideas lol. Direct mode does work consistently btw but i need internet to Airplay and play E6. I also find the shot delay is longer this way.

    Thanks !!

I just got my Skytrak+. I was also having issues at first with wifi dropping after 20 mins. I called there tech support (always very pleasant to deal with), He suggested to reset and then reconnect to network mode. He stated that the first time you go into network mode and connect to your wifi, its gets unstable. Resetting and reconnecting seemed to fix it for me.

Hello! Have you tried performing a soft reset on your SkyTrak+ unit? You can find it by clicking on your profile and selecting 'About'. From there, you will be able to see the device reset option.

Hey, thank you for your response. Do you have any further details on why this would be necessary or expected to fix the issue ? Seems odd .

I'm happier now that I've thrown in the towel and only use a USB cable. Getting Wi-Fi to work reliably on the ST+ is a bit of a fool's errand. There are stretches of time where it can work great, and then it stops. Multiple factory resets, using Direct Mode then switching to Wi-Fi mode, forcing the unit to only us 2G, then only 5G, sacrificing a goat ... and then it suddenly works again. Until it doesn't. Meanwhile every other nearby Wi-Fi thing works perfectly. The truth of the matter is the ST+ Wi-Fi implementation is very poor. They must have picked the wrong chip manufacturer. But with a cable it works pretty great. Also, you don't need to use that short Y-cable that comes with the unit. Any USB-C cable will work and and long ones are cheap on Amazon.
