Does anyone know if it is possible to connect the skytrak to your iPad in network mode by using your iPhone as a hotspot as opposed to a home wifi network?

Yes I do this at the range. I'm on android but the principle is the same. I have the hotspot running with ipad connected before starting skytrak.

I'm pretty anti-apple so not best person to respond but I think I recall that to tether with an iPhone you had to pay an additional £10/month to the carrier for the privilege of using your already paid for data how you see fit.
I don't know whether this is still the case, can you connect a computer to the iphone hotspot and browse?

Yes. I'm guessing there is something going on with the SkyTrak not recognizing the iphone as a wifi network. When I reset the SkyTrak and use my home wifi network it will connect. I wish I could just use that but the DSL we have is barely usable and also doesn't reach to the building I am hitting balls in.

this will end your troubles for a signal that won't reach. I use one and what a difference this makes. At my house I had one network in range without this and that was my router setting 4 ft away from the computer. I hooked this up to the computer and I had over 30 network signals and 20 of them had 5 bars.
