  • SkyTrak and WGT

    Hi all,

I have seen many people asking about skytrak and WTG and it seems like that the people who are beta testing TGC and E6 have never
played or tested WTG. It seems like nobody in this forum has tested it. There is no videos ... nothing. But from what I keep hearing
skytrak is coming out with WTG first...? Is there anybody who has some more detailed info or talked to somebody who tested it ?
I'm only interested cause I'm pretty sure it will be the cheapest of all versions and to test it out it would be that big of an investment.
I own a skytrak since about 5 month and can't wait for course play. The problem is I'm on the road a lot so I will not be able to play
on a regular basis. That's why TGC ,even that it seems to be the best choice, doesn't make much sense if it's going to be a monthly
prescription. Really hope to get some infos or even videos about skytrak with WTG.

  • Will WGT ever offer Multiplayer options when using a Skytrak? Meaning you could add 3 other individuals to make up a foursome all playing under one paid account.

    • I hope so. I know there are lots of opinions being flung around about whether WGT is worth the price tag, on the basis of the claim that its a video game rather than a proper sim. But as a video game, if it had well-integrated multiplayer, I for one would be happy to pay the $199/year.

Even if Perfect Golf comes out at 250$/year? Adding multiplayer is probably going to be a relatively expensive ordeal for WGT and the number of Skytrak/WGT users is going to be small, so their incentive to do it is low. WGT also has other major issues, such as limited camera angles and in general, the lack of ability to really "see" how a shot will play. Then there's the major issues with putting and chipping. I've found it so frustrating to play that I only use it in practice mode and continually using mulligans to practice certain shots. Any other sim comes out, I won't be using it at all, with the possible exception of E6 being first.

    • Right now $200.00 a year isn't worth it with the putting problems I'm constantly getting. The distances aren't equivalent to what I hit at the range on skytrak either. Its a flub right now. The only thing I like is the fact I don't need a computer to utilize it.

      • My yardages seem right on with the challenges. I work on my game on the ST range 60% wgt challenges 30% wgt golf 10% of the time without attempting putts. I have to accept way too many 3 putts.

        • Oh my take their isn't any wind. Wgt yardages. You have to account for wind and elevation. Just saying

I am basically on the same boat. On WGT challenges (I can't say much about WGT courses, though), I don't feel the yardages are way off. Rather I feel like I am on a real course. In real world, when you hit a good shot or a misshot (fat, top, hook, slice) you immediately know how the ball flies. That is exactly I see on WGT challenges. Their bounces and rolls are sometimes awkward, but who knows. I always count in winds and elevations on WGT, though. Their graphic is not 3D so that it is not awesome as a sim, but it is good enough for me as a practice tool. My 2 cents.

              • Has anyone had issues with the sound not working on your iPad? Have an Air 2 and just installed and no sound. Have deleted and reinstalled 4 times and each time no sound. Sounds works on everything else so it has to be something wrong with the app.

yes that happened to me too. My sound is back now. I'm not sure why i was without it for awhile. I like the heart beat when you knock it within 10ft. I'm glad that sound is back.

                  • Just played my first session on the updated WGT. It was excellent. My drives were going the distances I would expect and the courses played like I remember. I have played several of them IRL and I was hitting similar clubs into the green. I did not spend any time putting so I can't comment about that. Overall very impressed.

                    • Guys, just FYI...last night WGT released a server update (meaning you don't need to get a new app update) that fixed the driver distances. Also confirmed that the putting issue (short putts auto-putting long distances) was resolved in the last app update. Basically, make sure you have the latest app and both issues are resolved.

Yep, I had that problem again today playing Bethpage Black on WGT. On several medium range putts, I made a good swing and the ST processed the shot, but the ball moved only a few inches and then "stuck." After taking a mulligan to reset the shot, I found that ST would often read the next shot correctly but sometimes it would give me a stuck shot again.

                        • I've stopped putting on WGT long time ago. I don't think its putting is accurate (distance or direction) to even bother with so I just take the strokes determined by game once on green.

I think people should never expect WGT to be anywhere comparable to TGC (and soon PG and E6) and treat it as just a simple elementary low-level golf sim (plus I don't think it will ever get multi-player btw). Just look at the difference - in less than a week people who bought TGC have played, invited friends over to play despite currently no multi-tee feature, gone to Q School, joined Tour waiting to play Honda Classic, etc. which is completely different than the user experience people have gotten w WGT in the almost 1/2 year since it's been out (where people still prefer to play the demo E6 w one course over WGT).

And SkyTrak should probably market WGT as such accordingly and maybe just include it in their GIP going forward as the elementary low-level sim it is which one can use to practice some on-course play on beyond driving range. Over 5 years, TGC at $895 (w the $100 rebate) comes in at $179/year - just $79 more than the $100 extra needed to go from GIP to WGT package where the enjoyment (and capabilities) of TGC are clearly multiple times better making the WGT pricing unsustainable. And if you look at the WGT pricing on SkyTrak's website, it's supposed to be $300/year (or $200/year more than basic GIP) but currently discounted to $200/year - I mean who in their right mind would pay $200/year for WGT when PG will be coming out at $250/year? So either they just include WGT in their GIP or WGT will probably just die...

I agree that WGT is just a low-level golf sim, but it seems appropriate that bugs in its operation should still be fixed once they're identified. I have WGT because it was part of the package available when I bought my SkyTrak. It is not a true competitor for TGC, PG, or E6, but it is better than no sim at all while I wait for PG to be released .

What's wgt? Kidding - haven't played it since I joined Wade Hampton. Now that I bought TGC - haven't opened Wade. Wgt was an inexpensive learning experience.

                        • I play WGT challenges for my practice purpose. I am wondering if I can repeat a certain hole. All I can do now is to restart from the 1st hole.
If WGT people are monitoring this thread, hope they can consider adding this option for the next update.

                          • Hey team I just want to do a reality check here to make sure I'm not crazy. Does anybody else think that pitching/chipping on WGT from maybe 30 yards and less is really unrealistic? Particularly shots from 10 yards and less. Even with the green speed set to 'slow' it seems like it's nearly impossible to land and hold chips. I also think the ball carries an unrealistic amount on those shorter shots.

Anyways I know many of you are off playing TGC and not thinking twice about WGT anymore, but I wanted to do a little survey just to see if my assessment is shared by others.

I played a few holes tonight at Merion. I ended up in a situation where i was kind of on the fringe from about 50 feet. I was in practice mode so I decided to see how many tries it took to get inside 5 feet. It was very hard to get the speed right. My first 2-3 putts went like 20-30 feet and I was wacking it hard. My next few flew past the hole. It took me about 10 tries to get it inside 5.

Usually what I do with WGT is play in practice mode and rehit my approach until I"m on and then take the strokes. It's just too much hassle to play around the greens and it's not helping my game.
