Skytrak OG USB to tablet? Chromebook?

I'm getting ready to set up an incoming Skytrak OG with either a Samsung Galaxy 4 tablet or perhaps a Chromebook since the Skytrak app is available on both. I've read there can be wifi connectivity issues and wondering why I can't just use a USB cable to eliminate connectivity problems. The Skytrak site indicates that cable connections are possible on all device types. Has anyone tethered an Android device? any issues?
