  • Another distance issue question..but only with good balls

Just bought og skytrack. Was surprised how short I hit my irons given as a 5 handicapper I have my distance pretty dialled in on the course. Using same ball I play rounds with (pro v 1x) I was about 10 yards short of the numbers I'd expect on every iron, even when I flushed it.

Anyway, I took it to the driving range on a still day and the skyttack distances were absolutely bang on what the trackman said (appreciate trackman range isnt massively accurate, but the rangeballs were reading as far as id expect them to)

Whilst Indoor swing syndrome isnt a thing as im outdoors in a net, i decided to 'borrow' one of the range balls to establish how far i hit it at home. Ie am I swinging it differently into the net than at the range. Anyhow..the range ball when hit into the net had very similar distances to what I got on the range, and bang on what I'd expect from a crappy range ball. Yet when I followed this by hitting a pro v 1, it actually went about 5-10 yards shorter on average

The big discrepancy is the spin rate. The range ball spins around 3500, the pro v 1 over 6000 on my 7 iron. And I get similar low spin numbers using cheaper 'proper balls' which seem to go bang on what I'd expect to hit on the course

So what's going on? It's not a mat or iss issue as I have hit alot of balls, and the numbers are consistently out with the pro v1 and spot on with a cheaper 'proper' ball. Yet on the course I'd expect them to go same distance, or perhaps even expect the pro v to go further

In my experience, Pro-V's have high spin and fly shorter. There is a post that I contributed to that has screenshots of spin rates when comparing Pro-Vs to other balls. I have attached a link, I think it demonstrates how accurate the SkyTrak is as well demonstarting the difference between golf balls.

Hello fellow sim golfers. I've had the skytrak around 4 years now and use TGC 2019 software. I've always loved it and still do, however, and the positive bit first, my game has improved significantly since I first had it, but now I'm getting more frustrated with it. Since, I've started striking it better, I'm getting punished

        Not really

On the course one of my strengths is distance control. For example i know for a fact I carry my 8 iron on the course with a pro v1 x about 144 yards. And I will carry a cheaper ball like a calloway hex a very similar distance

On the skytrack the hex will fly bang on what I'd expect it to on the course, the pro v 1 is about 10 yards shorter. Spin is definitely lower on the hex on skytrack as you'd expect

It's not a massive issue tbh. I bought the skytrack to compliment the hitting net in my back garden and I'm more fussed about getting feedback on shot shape and direction than distance. If I ever decide to play sim golf I'd probably just stick with the hex balls, which aside from flying the distances im use to on the course, are far cheaper

You want to use Pro V's you could increase the course or range elevation to get to that number.
