I'll write more later. My initial review is this: seems decent enough but probably only worth $50. Seems like the hinge might break after awhile. Also they should have lined it with some sort of foam, it does seem secure but foam would be comforting. I may try to add some myself.

You have to attach the bubble level. Overall I like it for $50 - not $120 or whatever it was.

I just got my protective case today, and I agree about the high price for a pretty basic plastic box. The green latch seems like it could break if I try to pry it open. Is there any trick to unhooking the latch? It does look like there are a few small pieces of foam at strategic places inside the case, but additional foam might be a good idea as long as it doesn't block any openings.

Yep got it back. Same Skytrak, they replaced the led board. Shipped back relatively quick direct from Skytrak however the shipping label was messed up and I ended up with a bill for duties. After going back and forth between UPS and Skytrak I still got stuck with a $42 brokerage fee...

Are you kidding me......... SkyTrak_Seth you gotta help Moz on those fee's. What I would suggest is ask for an extra year of GIP for the inconvenience.

That's to bad, I know that the shipper can email a revised bill of sale showing a zero dollar value. To bad skygolf wouldn't do that.

Thanks luv2golf. I sent them the link to the UPS site as well which has the right forms. Apparently UPS was adamant that it was a new unit - don't know if they revised the forms correctly. I Msged Seth when I got it and let him know as well. They should seriously consider using usps as they don't have the outrageous fees that come with ups.

Regardless of the fee's I get warranty repairs sent back to me from the states all the time. I've even been sent back a new unit after 3 times getting the same unit repaired and not getting fixed. I've had to correct UPS in the past. You shouldn't of paid that money, no way. Definitely deserve some sort of remuneration from skygolf for not filling out the correct paperwork.

Not going to hijack this thread, good luck Guest, don't take no for an answer.

Appreciate the advice luv2golf. Let's see if Skytrak comes back with anything. I'm happy doing business with folks that have integrity and perhaps I was naive to expect Skytrak to make it right on their own.

With ES16 on the near horizon I hope things fall into place fairly quick. I am seriously considering cancelling the hardware enclosure and building something based on @davrays design for the interim. If ES16 comes out of the box with TGC integration I will seriously have to consider switching - and hopefully it sits behind the ball mitigating the need for an enclosure.

In a word, no, it's absolutely not a typical practice.

Amazon does not charge until ship date.

        Neither does Apple
Expert analysis of the leading stories in tech and entertainment plus reviews of the latest gadgets.

Finally, the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) Web site notes that there is a general industry rule against charging before an item actually ships.

Billed for products you never ordered, or for products you ordered but never got? Federal laws protect you. Here's what to do.

"Some credit card issuers make an exception to the general industry rule against sellers charging before shipping if the seller tells you about its practice at the time of sale."

Concealing its practices seems to be par for the course when Skygolf is involved. First, the they did not make it clear to early adopters that the Game Improvement Package was an annual fee and required for simulation use. Then, they run everyone's credit cards for the full amount of a pre-order against industry standard practice without telling people before they were billed.

The pattern of less-than-ethical business practices led me to cancel my order for the shield and landed my Skytrak on eBay. They money is not the issue. I simply choose not to give my money to companies that act in this fashion. The market is going to get a bunch more competitive in the spring when Ernest Sports enters the fray. I'm going to trade up to either the ES-16 or a pre-owned Skytrak, depending what the ES offering brings and where it ends up being priced.

It's not that big of a deal.. Most credit card companies don't allow an authorization to be held for more than a few business days without being claimed. In the case of a backordered item, or a preorder, this is quite common.

I wish people would pump the brakes before they firmly align themselves against Skytrak.

My unit is waiting for me, I won't have a chance to offer up my review, but I'll probably try to add some foam inside like Joko suggests.

I got mine today. I was expecting material more like otterbox or similar rubber smart phone cover, but it is more like abs plastic. I do like that the feet are long enough to sit next to any mat and not have to be on the mat. That will help my sim setup.

                Overall, it is a $50 product. 6/10

I agree with the others, it's basically an ABS plastic case, not much more to it than that. It makes me feel slightly better about having others hit with it, so I guess it does what I intended. The clasp is pretty poor, but the unit feels like it's secure within the case. I may try to add a little bit of foam inside the case, but I think that's probably unnecessary. The only issue I see is with the opening. I would have felt better paying $50 for the case, anymore than that does feel a bit like gouging.

I agree about the opening for the cameras. A ball can still get through that space if hit just right (actually wrong). I really like having the level on top and the ability to adjust the legs easily.

                      Received mine today

                      Pros
                      * Long adjustable legs
                      * Spirit/bubble level works without the ST unit being in the case

                      Cons
                      * I haven't seen plastic that cheap since the 80s. Seriously ST you must have searched high and low for such crappy plastic

Wait, I think there's a new update on the next version of skytrak cases.

They will now come with a 1 year CIP (case improvement package). Really cheap, only $30/year. Now if you already own a case you can upgrade for $15.

                      Press Release to follow.

Sign me up bro. They'll have to work out the security first though. So we can't hack there stuff.

In all seriousness they should do their security right, I'll be testing it. I work in infosec and when I see a vulnerable target like this I enjoy taking a look.

I agree with the security aspect of it. I only question why is taking so long? Are Santa's elves doing the coding in between making presents for the kids? Just curious as to why a team of 4 people couldn't tighten this up like a frogs butt in water within a couple of weeks. Just doesn't make sense the time frames.

I ordered the package on 30 Nov, since it said the case was shipping on 1 Dec, figuring that I might as well get everything at once. No notice about the case being delayed and still haven't gotten it yet. Asked live chat about it and they said it would ship that week, which was a week ago and no notice of shipping. Anybody order 1 Dec or later and already have their case?

I ordered the ST package on 11/30 through my local dealer. I received the ST on 12/4 and the case on 12/8. The only problem I had was getting the registration for the PIP set up since there were no instructions about this in the box I received from ST. My dealer called ST, and they worked it out for me.
