  • Distance is inaccurate with the woods

Just wanted to see if anybody else went to the range and actually tested it with the woods and how accurate it was. And what results they came up with. Well this weekend I did and I can confirm that the woods are definitely short on Skytrak.

Here's my setup on how I did it. Was on the 18th tee box and was a slow day so I tested all the woods. I had a friend stand out by the landing zone and would hit the balls and he would stand where the ball landed. Then I would lazer it from tee box to where he was standing and then lazer again on where it finished. I wrote down all the numbers from the driver , 3wood and 5 wood. And recorded what was shown on Skytrak. I can confirm its at least 20 plus yards out. From what I can tell , for example. If Skytrak would say it landed at 240 yards and rolled 20 yards for a total of 260. But The lazer would say 265 on where it landed and would roll out 20 yards to end up being 285 yards. I did this on all the woods and it seems where the end result of where the ball rolled out on Skytrak would be the distance it would land shot by the lazer on the course So in the end result I sure hope that SkyTrak_Seth reads this and can figure out real quick on a solution to this problem or I'm just going to lose interest and hopefully be able to return it for something more reliable when playing simulator.

So Skytrak I hope you get this rectified ASAP or you will lose a customer.

I just have to say, I'm jealous as hell of the launch conditions you guys have. Haha. Would love to get that kind of launch angle with those kind of spin numbers. One thing I'm excited about working on over the winter with my ST, getting that launch angle up without adding back spin. Impressive guys!

For me, new-tech drivers with low and forward weighting, with a good shaft increased my launch and lowered my spin. I also moved the ball to just inside my left toe. I'm currently using an 11.5 deg setting and only spinning 2000-2250 typically. Couldn't do that with drivers just 3-5 years ago unless you put a piece of rebar in them instead of a shaft.

I don't have video or other proof that I haven't jacked the settings, other than to tell you that I left them at the default 500 ft, 70 deg, 50% humidity (I think that's the default...) You'll just have to take my word for it. If you think your unit is messed up, send it back, man, or talk to Seth.

I think those numbers are faulty and I suggest you send that Skytrak my way just to mAke sure those numbers are correct. Lol.

I can't promise you if you do send it. You might not get it back. Lol

I just hope they get a good one out to you. It would be really frustrating in your shoes. I originally thought the ball speeds were low on my unit, but then I realized:
      1) I was just rusty
      2) the mat I was using was too soft and I wasn't getting any support under my feet (plus I was sinking down into the mat almost a full inch!!)

I started hitting while standing on a 2x12 and it fixed the support/grip problem. Then after about a month of practice, my ball speeds starting coming back up.

My ball speeds vary a lot depending on how much I play. The 148 mph shot is after a 6 month hiatus (new baby), and that is about all I could muster. And to be totally fair, the 184 mph with a driver 3 inches longer than I usually play. I just did it for fun to see what I could do. This was the highest ball speed I could record, which is why I took the picture. Typically, I'm in the 160's with a 44.5-45" driver.

Good luck with the return, I'm sure Skygolf or Seth will get you sorted out.

It shouldn't make a difference whether it's off a half inch or not. How else could the unit calculate an iron from the ground and a teed up Driver?

Most tees are from 1 1/2 to 2 inches off the ground. You shouldn't have to raise and lower the Skytrak to be within mm.

        Just my .02 cents.
