  • Skytrak Demo Units vs Blemished Units

For those of you experiencing serious issues with distance, spin numbers, etc., are these issues primarily being seen in the "demo" units that skytrak sold? I read one response in another post to a similar question, and the owner stated his was a "blemished unit". Skytrak sold both for around the same discounted price... I'm just curious if there's any correlation? Obviously there are some defective units out there, I'd also be interested in hearing from the people who bought discounted units and feel that their unts are relatively accurate.

I saw this question in another post, but there wasn't a lot of follow-up to it. I would be curious to hear from other folks on the forum.

Yes I have used that optimizer. However with the new version 2.0 I suddenly am not able to save history or stats from each session and I do have GIP. Skytrak won't even connect except in direct mode no network mode so far.

If the launch and ball speed data is off the algorithm won't matter will it? Perhaps I do not know how the system works. I figured the cameras catch the ball speed, spin and launch data then the software uses an algorithm to estimate carry yardage.

Yeah that's how the system works. There is nothing that has changed in the software regarding unit connection. Can you log into the app? You could connect in network mode before? Has to be a typo in the network credentials - it's case sensitive. Also no special characters in your network password.

I'll try again. Weird since the app had connected but was not able to with newer app. Strange occurrences in direct mode now as well. I even deleted upgraded app and reinstalled 2.0 app. Still slower communicating in direct mode although it usually does eventually but then it freezes during many of the sessions which it never did before. I wrote below that that is reads in history and stats "upgrade required" instead of showing the stats. It worked before and I am logged in when I check. I also keep it plugged in even when using.

Spider, Were you able to figure this out. I had the same problem yesterday and am thinking of sending it back for refund I was so frustrated. Might chill for a day and try again. I found my unit would not release itself from Direct mode according to the lights. I spend the whole day trying to figure it out. I tried a new network, tried deleting app and reinstall, but could only get Direct mode. At one point I could not get either! It had worked fine since Thursday (thats when it arrived). I have managed to get it to go to Network mode, but have no idea how. After all day trying it finally connected. Strange thing was the unit showed with its lights that it had found the network, but it struggled to connect to the app. It took about 20 minutes of trying and it finally did. I used the unit in the sim and it worked fine but I have not touched it since. Before this problem, I could not get it to sync any of the direct mode sessions.

sorry was out actually on the golf course yesterday so haven't tried again. I am new to this and it had connected prior on network mode when I originally registered the unit. However where I use the skytrak there is no internet so I go direct. Now in direct mode after upgraded app 2.0 it doesn't save my stats history. Reads UPgrade required "you must upgrade to platinum package.... I have the GIP package.
It takes way longer to connect in direct mode and freezes each session now with green lights on like it is ready for me to hit. So I have to restart. Never was able to connect through network mode

Okay, I think I have figured this out. I decided to try this again today. Charged the unit overnight. iPad fully charged. All apps closed. rebooted iPad. Turned on the ST unit. Opened the app. Checked I was on correct network for ST unit. Tried to connect to unit via network mode and it hooked up. Yeh!!! Signed out of app and changed network wifi to ST unit wifi. Opened app and and requested Direct mode. Hooked up no problem. Signed out of app and changed Network to home wifi again. Request Network mode on app and it would not connect. By going by the lights which were green, red, red, (bottom to top) it is still in Direct mode but not hooked up. I hooked back up to Direct mode and tried this without signing out of app. Then it will hook up correctly in both modes. So I guess by signing out of the app, it leaves the unit stuck in whatever mode it in at the time. Now I know that is great.
I have another problem though and will look for on other threads. When I took it out on the course the other day I noticed that the battery level was at 65% and I had only used it for a few minutes. Thought at the time I might have accidently turned it on. I charged it overnight last night and the yellow light was on when I pulled it in and not light this morning. When I just hooked it up now it shows on 70%. Skytrak, you interested in helping or am I on my own?

There is supposed to a battery life readout calibration process, yet to be disclosed. I recall Seth said something about it. To my knowledge, almost everyone's battery reads wacky right now.

I wouldn't put too much into the battery indicator. Instead i would say see how long you can go on a charge, that should give you an indication.

Ah, awesome pwade3! Glad you got it sorted (maybe you can disregard my PM). I'm a little confused though on what you mean by "signing out of the app". You just mean pressing the home button on the iPad? I'll explain how it all works:

        1) You need to make a direct connection to the unit so that you can program your network credentials to it (that's why the first step in putting the unit in network mode is to direct connect).

        2) There's no need to exit the app. Just go to the next screen where you need to enter network credentials. Once you hit connect, you'll see the middle light on the unit flash red (trying to find a network), flash yellow (found the network and trying to connect), and then hopefully go solid yellow (successfully connected to the network, accepted password, etc.)

        3) Now, your iPad "Should" automatically go back and connect to that network you just programmed into the SkyTrak unit, but if for some reason all lights don't turn green, go to iPad settings>Wi-Fi and make sure it didn't reconnect to a different network. If so, just connect to the right one and go back into the app.

        4) Your SkyTrak unit is now in network mode forever unless you tell it otherwise by reverting to direct mode in the app (you'll see the unit reset) or if you go outside your network range.

        Clear as mud?

Also, as mentioned above, there's some issues with the battery indicator percentages. I'm working on it for the next release.

Great, thank you. What I meant by signing out of the app is, if you go to the top right hand corner of the skytrak app where the persons head is and touch that it takes you to session history, settings etc. That is where I was "logging out of the app"(not signing out, sorry). When I recieved the unit I followed the above procedure and it worked flawlessly for the first 5 days. The reason I logged out was because somehow yesterday the unit would not connect. I tried it that way to see if it would connect (instead of the normal way) as I had not done that the prior days. My problem was I continued to do that when I was troubleshooting. Not good idea! I was doing all the right things for the first few days and it would connect with no issues. Just yesterday it would not. I tried to reset everything and start from ground zero but no, it would not go. Still don't know what happened. It was like it was locked up in Direct mode. Seems fine today. Will keep working with it as I like it. Just wish I had not lost a couple days as I was going to the range with it to test. Another day. Thanks for the help. Appreciate it.

One other thing. In the user documentation on Skytrak for network connecting it says not to use Guest Network. It says I quote: Make sure your network is not setup as a Guest Network. Guest Networks will not allow device-to-device communication.

I have mine on Guest Network and it works fine. I am nervous to change it back to my house network incase I run into the problem I had yesterday. Apple Time Capsule. FYI

Your network may be called Guest, but a true guest network will not allow a device to communicate with other devices on your network. If it's working, let's leave well enough alone But logging in and out of the app should have zero effect on the connection process. You can do sessions all day not logged into the app, it just won't save the data.

Ok, great. I will remember that. I thought you had to be logged into the app. Mine still locks up if I am logged in and in direct mode and then log out of app and log back in and try Network mode. I tried it again and it get stuck in Direct mode. No issues though as I won't do that anymore now that I know what to do. Cheers

I'm having issues with using ST at the range in Direct Mode and then returning home to put it into Network mode and sync my data so I have it to review. I have yet to be able to do that. My data is lost everytime. I also am still having trouble at that point get it back to Network mode. When I finally do get it back to network mode, and it shows its synced, not session shows for that time. Is there a procedure I'm missing. Do I exit session before I close the app? Do I turn off ST before I close the app? Do I not close the app and just turn off the iPad? The unit works great at the range, just can't get the data home. Anyone else having this problem.

Yes I have never been able to sync shot data from my Direct Mode sessions either. Been told you should be able to do this but no one can help me figure out how?

Seth, you have any help for us? Are we missing something in this process?

I think Seth took a sabbatical, his wife is due any day with their second child.

I've an ex-demo unit and i've look considered that it had a significant draw/hook bias where it was seemingly impossible to go right of target (i'm a right hander, so hard to fade according to my Skytrak), even in the face of clear fades and slices on the range. Thinking back I can recall one time where it seemed to pick up fades and raws (slices and hooks) when I had a session with pro. Now this session was on a fully synthetic range for about 20m long. So no individual mats that might curve up/down at the edges, as with the normal ranges I go to.

I then went to regular ranges again last night and setup, made sure I had an alignment stick at the base of the Skytrak and lined up with a marker down the range. I had a good hour long session where it picked up everything exactly as occurred and I could see, even a few shanky slices.

A thought occurred regarding the level calibration, as Seth told me this is active (I thought it wasn't currently active but it is and it's just not viewable as to how level the unit is in the app, and they were debating putting that in so users could see it). For the session last night I put the Skytrak on the mat and then turned it on and never moved it. I've a suspicion that being lazy on previous occasions i've turned it on as I bent down to put it on the mat. This leads me to think that the auto-level is maybe only carried out when you first turn it on? It would be good if Skytrak can confirm this? in any case I would imagine that it should really re-calibrate level before each shot - maybe it does this? but my problems with left bias on many sessions would indicate that this isn't the case?
