  • SKYTRAK with WGT ... LOOKING FOR DEVICE Constantly ?!

So my SKYTRAK when playing WGT seems to be looking for device A LOT.... Also 50% of the time the video lags...time time shots don't register mainly putts
When I called Skygolf tech support the first time ( of my 10-15 calls I've made to them ) they said that meant it was my Wifi strength being the problem.

Since I have upgraded my internet service
    Bought a 200$ router a netgear AC1900 nighthawk
Moved my wireless router , it is probably 40-50 feet away

I am running WGT on an IPad Air2
And communicating to Epson 2045 home cinema projector using Apple TV
The iPad and the Apple TV have no issue picking up the signals and run super fast

My question to all the tech savvy people out there or anyone who is has had these issues and conquered...
    What is causing these problems
Why would iPad and Apple TV work but signal is not working for skytrak
Would I be better served to eliminate apple Tv and use lightening to hdmi cable

I am clueless and at my wits end

Yes lightening to tv is better. I had issues with Apple TV with lag

Is your ATV hard wired or are you connected via WIFI? If your ATV is hardwired (like mine), I have zero issues. Time to register is 3 secs.

Make sure you use MIRROR for ATV.

ATV = Apple TV ( brain fart )
Yes it is connect Via HDMI directly to projector

I would love for the fix to be as easy as eliminating Apple TV and getting lightening to Hdmi adapter... But it seems like fools gold, what do you think ?

Ya, no worries. How is your network connection for the ATV? Are you hard wired to your router/switch or is the ATV connected via wifi to your router?

I bet most people have their Apple TV on wifi. I tried to make this work but the lag was crazy. The $50 is well worth the price to me for the lightening to hdmi.

I agree! Use the HDMI adapter for connecting your iPad to TV/Projector. The Apple TV could experience lag. Its always better to direct connect vs a wireless connection if you have the choice.

I don't agree........I have my ATV connected via Ethernet to my router and use mirror (therefore I have zero wires in the way) and I have no lag what so ever.

I have 2 issues with an HDMI to Lightning adapter -

                1. The lightning cable can dislodge very easily. 2. How ugly is it to have an hdmi cable running from your ipad to your projector or amp.

Just set it up correctly and an Apple TV will work just as good.

My Apple TV is connected to network via wifi and into projector w hdmi. I could see how this will help with lag issues....but what will help the looking for device message I keep seeing on WGT

Don't connect your apple tv via wifi, run an ethernet line to your router from the apple tv.

This will eliminate lag. As for your initial problem, make sure you don't have the pc app open on any cpu on your network and make sure the skytrak app is closed on all devices.

Also, are you in network mode on your skytrak......

I agree w luv2golf ...I'm not thrilled w lightening / hdmi cables running into IPad and along and up a wall wall..and the dislodge aspect

Yeah, if your Apple TV streams without lag, then I would say no problem using it. It is very convenient not having a cable. Rippin3wIndoors problem does sound like a wireless connection problem. I know he said he upgraded router and modem is 50 feet away.

Here are the different things to try:

Get an HDMI adapter and see if you notice a difference.

Also try uninstalling the WGT app and reinstalling it. Make sure your iPad is running the latest operating system.

Uninstall the Skytrak app on iPad and reinstall.

Does your Skytrak have lag or disconnect issues when connected in Network Mode and using the Skytrak app on iPad in driving range?

Also try playing WGT on your iPad without the Skytrak in the normal online play mode. See if WGT has lag/connections issues.

Trying these different scenarios will eliminate each as the root cause and hopefully will bring you to the real problem.

Also run an internet speed test https://www.speakeasy.net/speedtest and make sure you have a good and fast connection. Anything lower than 5MB download speed could be an issue.

                    Good luck! Keep us posted!

I have uninstalled both the Skytrak & WGT and reinstalled a few times no luck there.
It seems i only have the lag and disconnect issues when I'm in WGT not really in Skytrak, but I only tested that once when I was on the phone w Skygolf rep....I don't really use the Skytrak app mainly just use WGT.
I upgraded internet to 75/35 down/upload is that refering to the 5MB speed ?
I am waiting to hear back from Skygolf beacause when I spoke to Netgear they said they could solve this issue with the searching for network if they could get the "PORT NUMBERS" for the Skytrak...does anyone know what this means?
As much as I do not want to run any cables I would prefer to run the ligthtening to hdmi to apple tv rather then a 50' run of ethernet cable through my house and into sim room / garage...i suppose the ethernet cable is better but if i go the lightening route i can just eliminate the apple Tv alltogether ?
as you can you see technology is not my strong suite...keep the tips coming, you guys are awesome..drinks on me after we get this fixed

I am looking at doing a similar setup, did you connect the projector to the skytrak or did you connect the projector to the iPad with a hdmi iPad converter?

Haha...told you to get the HDMI adapter. Like I said before a hard wire connection is always better than wireless. I know others have good experience using the Apple TV, but with all your issues I thought eliminating the wireless connection and going straight to HDMI would make the difference. Glad you got it working now!
