I know that this has been discussed in the past but wanted to start it fresh as there have been various hardware updates.
I was playing WGT and having the pain that many have with short game shots. Specifically, I could not hit any kind of short chip or lob near the green. The unit simply did not pick the ball up on pitches. I am not talking about a super lob that hits the ceiling. Basic green side pitch shots. I eventually had to hit a low runner that either caught up short or went to the back of the green. I spoke of this on another forum in Skytrak and Seth asked if I had tried this on the range app. Last night I spent a considerable amount of time with the range app and my 60 degree wedge...same thing. I could not register short pitch chip shots unless I hit them over about 15 yards (skylark reading) or hit them low. And I mean pretty darn low like a bump and run. I hit about 12-15 lobs into the net with none picked up. When i alternatively hit a 20-50 yard shot the skylark easily picked up. I moved the ball in front of the red dot several times and behind it several times with no solution.
Honestly I hadn't tried this very often to this point because without simulation there really is no need to. I have actually found the putting on WGT to be ...ok which led me to playing several rounds of 9-18 holes ruined by this lob/pitch problem that is also present in the range app.
To Seth or anyone is this always going to be the case? Is this a hardware or software issue? How will this translate to simulation play when it does arrive? Will WGT always be like this or is it 'fixable' with an update?
I have considered my unit to be spot on in distances over the past year (early adopter). I have lost some love due to the various posts written by less than happy consumers on this forum and specifically because I did get the itch to try the simulation game....and have waited. I still absolutely love the thing for practicing and hitting different shots and have compared it to GC2 numbers and trackman and find it pretty close to perfect with almost every club in the bag (I do acknowledge the early irons distance problems happened here as well and I don't hit a ton of drivers into my net when practicing so I'm sure those numbers were probably off if I had).
Really this issue won't matter if simulation never comes but I am sure some day it will....I think.
Thanks.
