Skytrak vs flightscope optimizer

I was just hitting a few 6 irons indoors with the Skytrak. Hit once decent and see Skytrak showing 135 yds. It seemed short and I noticed the spin was pretty high: 10346. So I plugged the numbers into flightscope optimizer and I get 145 yds.

Whats up with that?

It looks like the ST algorithm is taking off a bit more distance for the 10k+ spin compared with the FO. Do you typically get this much spin with your 6 iron? Could be a misread by the ST.

My spin numbers were all over the place in this session and typically aren't nearly that high. I'm not a consistent ball striker - not even close. Also the ball I was using is getting chewed up. I have, on rare occasions, seen the Skytrak give me really odd readings, so the 10k 6i could be that, but I was just more curious about the algo difference.

This really sounds like a misread to me. I only get spin readings over 10K every once in a while, but the chances increase if the ball is worn or I don't bother to line up the logo very well. I know when I get spin over 10K with my driver that it's definitely an outlier that I just delete from a range session. When this happens, often some of the other calculated numbers are weird as well. On some misreads, I've even gotten club speeds that were higher than the ball speeds, and I have no idea how the ST calculated those numbers.

Wow, never heard of a 10k rpm 6 iron!

That's my average on a full lob wedge swing...

Seems the skytrak formula can't yet handle that anomaly....which I would say is an accurate description of a 10k rpm 6 iron....!

10K+ for mid- and long irons is definitely a misreading, which is a reported and known issue already. I myself have seen and am seeing this reading error occasionally. The cause of this is not clear, but I usually pick the ball and check if it is worn out. If it is, I just throw it away.
The yardage is an estimate based on the reading data and you just have to ignore the yardage resulting from this misreading. High spins lower a carry distance, which is true in real world and the Skytrak's algorithm attempts to reflects this.
