  • Actual temperature effect

Maybe a dumb question, but if I'm using the skytrak in my garage which is about 40deg, but I have it set to 80deg conditions, will I experience distance loss due to cold golf ball etc.?

I wouldn't think so since it is only measuring the ball immediately off impact. Hit a "cold" ball and then hit a "warm" ball and see if it makes a difference.

The difference between the initial ball speed of a warm ball and a cold ball is less then 1%. In the old days with wound balls the difference was a lot greater but in the era of solid balls the difference is minimal. I actually tested this awhile back with Pro V1x balls at 32F and 75 F. The ball speed difference was less then my swing variability shot to shot as was everything else the GC2 measures.

When using a launch monitor which makes it's measurements on the first inches of ball travel none of the above is relevant since the increased or decreased aero drag has no effect on the initial ball flight characteristics.
